IGBOGBO DAY 2019: CONFERENCE OF IGBOGBO INDIGENE IN CIVIL, PUBLIC SERVICE MEETS, DISCUSSES PUBLIC SERVICE AS KEY TO COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT. Sen. Adeseye Ogunlewe, Dr. Tunde Ogunlaja, others enjoin COIICPS to emulate people with good heritage in service.
In continuation of this year's Igbogbo Day festival, the Conference of Igbogbo Indigene in Civil and Public Service, COIICPS, on Friday assembled at De-Shokis Hall Igbogbo to have its maiden discuss on Public Service as the key to Community development.
In his welcome address, the President of the Association, Engr Olugbenga Ogunlewe, appreciated all for making the event a reality. He sued for smooth collaboration between the civil and public servants of Igbogbo indigene.
"Conference of Igbogbo Indigene in Civil and Public Service was established in 2017 with the aim of helping and promoting our brothers and sisters who are currently a civil servant and also give the opportunity to those who tend to become one of them.
"The body is meant to create opportunities for us to meet with people of Igbogbo kingdom, especially Civil Servants to know the problem they're encountering, so as to rub minds together in getting solution, Gbenga Ogunlewe explained.
Shortly after that, an upcoming artist, known as TY Sleek from Igbogbo presented a song that contains word of motivation and inspiration in the interlude. His presentation revealed that the facts to become someone in life is not an easy thing but with hard work and patience, sky is the limit. He also explained further on the word "true love".
The first speaker, Mrs. Kemi Kalesanwo, a Director of Mass Education, used her teaching skills to break down the topic which says 'Public service is the key to Community Development'. According to her, "the people have great role to play concerning the development of Igbogbo community."
She further added that the youths and other less privileged, should be encouraged to go for vocational training that could help them to become great. "Our aged ones should also make over self available for mass education because it could help even when it is not thought of, she said.
Kalesanwo further appealed to all to come together and make Igbogbo great. "To whom much is given, much is expected," she added.
In expectant of the second Speaker's presentation, Dolapo Ewulogbo known as DP-Dragon, also of Igbogbo indigene, used his music to mention some facts about the problem Igbogbo as a community is facing and also emphasised more on how it could be solved. He pleaded that the issues of Electricity, Bad road, Lack of empowerment needs urgent attention so as to make the development of Igbogbo an easy one.
The second Speaker, Mrs Titilayo Adedipe, Director Admin/HR, Ministry of Justice, appreciated the Royal Heads and other stakeholders in attendance. She defined public service as the kind of service the government render to her citizen in a particular community that shares common value, norms and ideas.
She further stated that community is the 4th arms of government, saying we have to come together in Igbogbo to identify our problems and jointly proffer the solutions. "Government cannot do it all, in a little way, we should find a means of solving our own problem, and as a public/civil servant, we have role to play in the development of our own community," she added.
The third speaker, Mr Waheed Kasali, Director, Training PSSDC Magodo, said "every community has a wealth of knowledge and a wealth of community development "If Lagos is said to be working, it actually means Civil Servants are working. We are the ones that helps government to achieve its agenda. We are all Public Servants, but not all of us are Civil Servants.
"We have the roles as a body which includes; Community development capacity, live group capacity, economic development, Sensitization, linking the community, Promoting community participation and monitoring project implementation," he said.
Reacting to the Guests Speakers, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, former Minister of Works and Infrastructure directed his words to the Igbogbo Development Association, IDEA, and Adeboruwa-in-Council. He appealed to IDEA not to restrict their strength to Igbogbo Day celebration alone. He said to IDEA Chairman, Dr Tunde Ogunlaja that he has a huge role to play concerning the development of Igbogbo kingdom.
"As a civil servant, we have to be committed and dedicated, Civil service is very competitive and if you are not strong and conscious, you may fail as a civil servant.
"As a civil servant, you don't talk when is not necessary, neither do you boost of what you are doing nor what you can do. Remember you won't be in the position forever, dont emulate people who has no heritage, run after good name and not money, money will finish but your good name and good deed can never be forgotten," Sen Adeseye Ogunlewe said.
He further stated, "we all have a good role to play in the development of Igbogbo community, there are many Directors at the federal level who hailed from Igbogbo but they have failed and neglected their community. Use me to assist you and I am always available and I will always answer to your needs, once it is in my capacity to do it," he promised.
The Chairman, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, Comrade Olusesan Daini, eloquently asked the civil Servants to guide the Public Servants well, saying the civil servants serves longer term in Service. He further enjoined COIICPS members to strategically place and support each other in service.
The IDEA President, Dr. Tunde Ogunlaja, in his own reactions to the speakers said thanked members of COIICPS for the initiative. He said the committee will emulate Neighbouring communities, particularly Ikorodu and make Igbogbo Day an unforgettable one.
"Community development is meant for all citizens, we should give more to our community and expect less, not giving less to the community and expecting more, he said.
HRM Oba Asunmo Aderibigbe, Alayandelu of Odo-Ayandelu in Epe LG, commended his royal colleague, HRM Oba AbdulSemiu Orimadegun Kasali, for supporting the people of Igbogbo in celebrating Igbogbo Day after his enthronement as a King. He also appreciated the presence of the civil/public servants in attendance.
"It is because you have impact in Igbogbo, that is why you are present here. Where are the rest? Igbogbo has been developed before many communities in Ikorodu Division but the Community is still under developed because Neighbouring communities are using Igbogbo to get so many projects while Igbogbo get nothing. He pleaded that we should stand for Igbogbo that could only be developed and promoted to a better condition with the help of its citizen," he said.
The former Head of Service, Aremo Adesegun Ogunlewe, in his eloquent remarks said "Public Servants played a very big role in the life of individuals, family, community, local government and Nigeria as a whole.
"If public service failed the society, it affect the life of every citizen till they cradle to death, he said. " I plead with you all to always be honest and leave a good legacy, when you serve diligently, God Almighty will reward you," he added.
His Royal Majesty, Oba AbdulSemiu Orimadegun Kasali, Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, commended the three Speakers and also those who reacted to their presentations, saying he's happy that the Speakers discussed commitment to service. He made reference to when he was working, saying his diligence and dedication gave him many motivations. "It might look like sufferness when you are showing your dedication but always have it in mind that there is a reward for hard work," the King said.
