OLORUNFUNMI BASORUN CELEBRATES SILVER JUBILEE AS ASIWAJU OF IGBOGBO KINGDOM, PAYS HOMAGE TO ADEBORUWA-IN-COUNCIL. Monarch, Council Boss, political leaders, others applaud his doggedness towards community development.

The Palace of Adeboruwa of Igbogbo was on Thursday, October 31, 2019, full to capacity, as Chief Olorunfunmi Basorun paid homage to Igbogbo monarch, Chiefs, with notable personalities in attendance, to give thanks and celebrate his 25th Anniversary as ASIWAJU OF IGBOGBO KINGDOM. 

Igbogbo, an ancient community that has produced great men and women, amongst which are technocrats, entrepreneurs, dynamic political leaders, business moguls and several other professionals. In the history of Igbogbo, as gathered by the MegaXpression Community Magazine, Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun is both an icon and legend in the struggles of the emancipation of the community from mediocrity and backwardness through his uncommon and dynamism in charting the positive dreams of the community. 

Basorun, was said to have been so instrumental to the vantage position the community is today. His influence as a renowned lawyer, banker and an intellect, saw to the rapid development of Igbogbo kingdom since early 50s. He has been at the forefront of Igbogbo political struggles since his 20s.

Asiwaju Basorun and some other prominent persons in Igbogbo had put in their best in the past to move the community forward. He participated in the Local Council Governing Body at the age of 29, made name for himself when he became the SSG for the first civilian government in Lagos State at the age of 41. He was however described as an encyclopaedia of knowledge whom many young aspiring leaders need his mentorship and tutelage. And 25 years ago, he was made the Asiwaju of Igbogbo Kingdom by late Oba Johnson Olatunji Fatola, the then Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom.

While addressing the gathering, High Chief Tajudeen Alade Onasanya, the Odofin of Igbogbo Kingdom,  congratulated the Baba Aladura on having made a significant impact on the lives of so many bright minds, and inspired so many of community leaders to support its cause. "Asiwaju Basorun has done a great job and a whole lot of good deed for the development and betterment of Igbogbo Kingdom," he said.

He further enjoined all to emulate the good attributes of Chief Basorun and let his achievements motivate and thrive harder to make Igbogbo Kingdom a better place for this generation and generations to come.

In his eloquent remarks, the celebrant, Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun after paying homage to the King, thanked all for the support giving to him so far in Igbogbo. “I am deeply grateful for your loyal addresses and for the kind and generous words in which Chief Odofin of Igbogboland and others have expressed themselves. I thank you all also for what you have said about my family and the service they have given over the years. Their supports have no doubt been invaluable," he said.

Baba Aladura, as he's fondly called, later presented three(3) beautifully adorned and befitting Chairs to the HRM Oba AbdulSemiu Orimadegun Kasali and Igbogbo Development Association, IDEA. 

Also speaking were Asiwaju Chief B.O. Benson, SAN, G.A.C members, Chief Busura Alebiosu and Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, President of IDEA, Dr. Tunde Ogunlaja, Oluomo of Igbogbo, Hon. Adebimpe Akinsola, Chief Okusanya, Alhaji Shakiru Odusanya, among  others. They lauded Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun for the services he rendered to Igbogboland, saying he’s a man worthy of emulation. 

In his royal remarks, HRM Oba AbdulSemiu Orimadegun Kasali, the Adeboruwa  of Igbogbo Kingdom, applauded the supports of everyone, he lavished praises on the Asiwaju of Igbogbo Kingdom, while urging him to keep up the good work of steering Igbogbo to a greater height. He further enjoined everyone to give maximum support for the development of Igbogbo Community. 

Chief Dr. Tunde Ogunlaja performed the vote of thanks, while Very Revd. Abiodun Olujimi of Methodist Church Cathedral, Igbogbo gave the closing prayer. Other notable personalities in attendance are the Yeye Asiwaju of Igbogbo, Chief Mrs Bolanle Basorun, Council Boss, Comrade Olusesan Daini, who was ably represented by the Council Manager, Chief Imam of Igbogbo,  Alhaji Dhikirulahi Andu Tanimose, member of the sixth Assembly in Lagos State, Hon Gbenga Oshin, Chief Yaya Andu, Alhaji Abdulahi Bobomi, Mr Gbenga Faniyi, Shakiru Seidu of MegaXpression Community Magazine, Otunba Lanre Odufowokan, Hameed Aroyewun, Barr Leke Bakare, Chiefs, league of Baales, members of IDEA, among others.

Mr Shakiru Sanni was on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, removed from his position as the Olumale Eluku of Igbogbo Kingdom, after his alleged gross misconduct and disrespect to the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali and traditional institution of Igbogboland. Mr Shakiru Sanni of Amoju branch, Lantan Onanusi Family in Igbogbo, was made the Olumale Eluku of Igbogbo few years back, and accused of insubordination, abused of tittle and total disrespect to the King, traditional institution of the land and Lantan Onanusi Family.
