METHODIST CHURCH, DIOCESE OF IKORODU MARKS 25TH ANNIVERSARY, LAUNCHES DIOCESAN BOOK/ MUSICAL CONCERTS. It's to celebrate what God has done through the years, Chairman Planning Committee, Sir Ayodele Elesho reveals.

The Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Ikorodu, founded in 1995 is 25 years old. At a book launch on Wednesday, January 29, 2020, inside Patrick Bolaji Methodist Cathedral, Ita-Elewa Ikorodu, as part of the one week celebration, the Bishop, Diocese of Ikorodu, Rt. Rev. Samson O. Osundina, Conference Lay President Emeritus, Sir (Dr.) Babatunde O. Benson, SAN, and wife, Lay President, Sir David O.A. Sunmoni, Otunba Engr. Akinola Awomodu, Sir (Otunba) Ayodele Elesho, Dr. Omotunde Ogunlaja, Sir Engr. R.O. Shoderu, Hon. SOB Agunbiade, among other distinguished personalities were in attendance at the book launch.

The Bishop, Diocese of Ikorodu, Rt. Rev. Samson O. Osundina said the Diocese created in 1995 with the inclusion of Igbogbo, Okeletu, Agbowa, Ogijo special area, Somolu and Ikorodu Circuits. According to him, it is made up of six circuits, both in Lagos and Ogun States.

The Diocese, he explained, had grown in strength and had given birth to many other local churches within the church. He said: “In its 25 years of existence, Ikorodu diocese had produced many ministers, deaconesses, evangelists and lay preachers, while many of the ministers had become Bishops, as well as Archbishops in Methodist Church Nigeria.”

The Chairman, anniversary planning committee, Sir. (Otunba) Ayodele Elesho disclosed that the diocese is holding some spiritual and social activities that will impact members and the communities positively, where the diocese operates as part of the 25th anniversary. "The diocese deems it necessary to celebrate what God has done through the years," he said.

He further applauded the uncommon legacy put together by Sir (Dr.) B.O. Benson, SAN, saying he has contributed meaningfully well to the stability of diocese of Ikorodu. "I want to sincerely appreciate Chief B.O. Benson and salute him for his contributions towards the progress and successful operation of the Diocese through the last 25 years," he added.

While reviewing the Book, titled: 'Journey of Grace', Very Rev. Sunday O. Adegbola said the book is historically inspiring, and impactful depicting twenty five years journey of grace, collection of facts, memoirs and milestones of God's enabling grace and grace that prevailed over issues of lives.

"Birthing the early Church dwelled more on love lavished on early Church that was impacted on Africa continent. Love and mercy was prominent and grace was played down as affecting the diocese of Ikorodu. Mercy and grace are seemly to be the same but they are different.

"The writer of the book trod and toes the path of foreign writers who share this erroneous impression that greater part of Africa was synonymous to idolatry and that Africa do not know God on page 7. Scholarship trend had proven that African do know God before the advent of Western Missionary, and scholars like Bolaji Idowu, Dapo Asaju, and Awolalu to mention few had frown against such position. The God of African cannot be likening to the God of Athens in Acts 17.

"The strength of the book is the use of simple language and short sentences that were engaged and free of typographical errors. The book is impactful and the short biography of Bolaji Idowu was appropriate to justify contributions to education on page 123," the reviewer said.

He further saluted the courage of the diocesan, the book update committee on this laudable project of historical writing. The crop of Pastors, Researchers, and Ministers, Preachers, Theological Students, Students generally and Leaders, saying they will find this book useful and interesting to develop their perspective, conviction and skill needed to move the Church forward in Mission work in the 21st century.

"I therefore recommend this book to all and sundry for individuals and corporate developments in research and spiritual growth," he added.
