TORTUGA FRIGATE EXTENDS GESTURE TO ORPHANAGE HOME, DONATES FOOD ITEMS TO CHILD LIFE IN IKORODU. ...Holds annual special prayer with thanksgiving.
It was a moment of excitement for the staff and kids of the Child Life Orphanage Centre in Ibeshe, Ikorodu, when the Tortuga Frigate, a non governmental Organization, donated food items to the centre.
Presenting the items on behalf of the organization, the Chairman of Tortuga Frigate, Ikorodu chapter, Comrade Pelumi Olalekan, told the orphanage centre's representative that it was their way of telling them thanks for the care they are giving to the children.
Pelumi further stated that the Tortuga Frigate was stretching its hands to them because they're truly cares. He admonished orphanage to use the donation wisely and called on other organisations to emulate the good example of Tortuga Frigate.
"Our annual thanksgiving and visitation to orphanage home this year is determined to give back to the needy. We are a non governmental organization and we aim to impact lifes positively," Comrade Pelumi added.
Receiving the items, the Housemaster of Child Life Orphanage, Ibeshe, Ikorodu, Mr Dotun Adesanya, thanked Tortuga Frigate, stating that the gift was brought in the time the children mostly needed it.
"We receive gifts from the public all the time, but not so many like that of Tortuga Frigate brought this year. We are indeed very grateful for this gesture," he said.
The President of Tortuga Frigate worldwide, who was represented by Hon. Adedayo Ajayi, reiterated that Tortuga frigate was founded in 1972 at the University of Ibadan. "This Association is founded for the aim of impacting lives and not for hooliganism," he revealed.
"My message for individuals who has and can afford to support the less privileged children is always very good for them to do so. Some of the children are homeless while some were discovered from the streets, which they don't have any hope but when they receive donations like this from people, their hope is raised and feel beloved that some people in the society showed love to them", Ajayi said.
"We are able to control the younger ones which are the undergraduate because we tell them it is only when you have your certificate that you can only join us and they do not have any choice than to face their study, so that they can join us to start doing the good deeds we are doing," Ajayi added.
Also, Mr Akinyemi, a prominent member of Tortuga Frigate, equally reiterated that they started since 2013 in Ikorodu and has become a yearly routine, whereby they all come together as a family and give to the needy and the less privileged people in the society.
He added, "It has been our philosophy and that this year is different, considering all that have been happening through out the whole world which we are just recovery from the pandemic".
The programme had in attendance the presence of religious leaders, community leaders and members of Tortuga Frigate from Ikorodu, Lagos State and nationwide.
The Lagos State Chairman of Tortuga Frigate, Mr Akeredolu Oluwaseun, said in his remarks that as a chairman, this is his first time of attending the annual thanksgiving and visitation to orphanage home. "Basically, I will advice all the youth to embark and make sure they are of good behavior," he said.
"My advice for Ikorodu youth is to change their perspectives, stop killing themselves and engage themselves in something meaningful that will be of impact to the community as a whole, so that the youths can be seen as an instrumental tools that will change the community positively," Akeredolu advised.
