Chairman/CEO, Nigeria in Diaspora Commission and three terms House of Reps Member, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has partnered with Lagos State Polytechnic Ikorodu, on the growth and development of Nigeria Youths, donated a building for Civic Centre to the School authority, noting that the commissioning of the Centre was equally to commemorate her Dad's 95th birthday anniversary.
In her speech, Dabiri-Erewa promised to ensure intensive ICT training for youths, in order to ensure the best use of the centre. "It's been quite a while putting this structure together and am glad we got to the stage of commissioning it. The beauty of it is that, it is situated in Lagos State Polytechnic and that is why we are very confident that is going to work, by seeing the young people that we have trained as a result of having this structure here," Dabiri-Erewa said.
She revealed that the project is an idea to train the younger generation, saying if the younger ones are ignored, the society will suffer it. "We came up with this idea and I was able to put this structure up. In this same Polytechnic, I have been able to give five hundred computers, laptops and highpads. We want partnering with the Lagos State Polytechnic for Nigeria youths to feel free to use this place for various types of training.
"We'll do more of this but we want to start the training immediately in areas that deem fit in teaching young children how to make phones, repairing of phones and learning about ICT. Other things will also come up as we equipped the place. The immediate one will be on how to make phones and it starting with Lagos State Polytechnic, then, we move in to other aspect.
"It's about developing Nigeria youths and I believe any Nigeria youth that is able to come through this centre with any training or the other will benefit from it, so it our contribution partnering with Lagos State Polytechnic to the development and growth of the Nigeria youths. Again, am looking forward to continuously working with you and ensuring that we build this place to become one of the best ICT training centre in this country.
In his eloquent remarks, the School Rector, Dr. Oluremi Olaleye said he's very happy because the Centre marks a new beginning in the history on the campus. "This project is going to serve the generality of Lagos State Polytechnic students and Nigeria youths for technology development and other technology related training and skills, because Lagos State Polytechnic under the Lagos State government has robust research training developmental activities that goes on all the time," he said.
"For us here in Lagos State Polytechnic, we believe that this is just the beginning of the good things that can come from Hon. Abike Dabiri-Arewa to the institution, more are still in the offing," Dr.Oluremi added.
Speaking with MegaXpression Media, a SUBEB member and former Governing Council member, LASPOTECH, Dr. Saheed Ibikunle, said this is a laudable project that will enhance teaching, learning and research as far as the institution is concerned.
"I am happy because I'm part of the project and I'm alive to witness the commissioning of this edifice. I must commend our representative, Hon. Abike Dabiri through which this project came to function," Ibikunle said.
The Lagos State Polytechnic Registrar, Mr Shakirudeen Adetona Bello, appreciated and congratulated Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa on the landmark achievement of the construction of the Civic centre in campus.
"It is heartwarming to note that it is several ways you have consistently expressed your interest in the development of this institution through numerous developmental projects, either donated or facilitated by you, one of it was the donation of over five hundred computers, desktops and highpads which both administrative, teaching and non teaching staffs are enjoying today," the School Registrar noted.
