SECURITY SUMMIT: AROYEWUN LEADS STAKEHOLDERS' DRIVE FOR SAFER COMMUNITIES, VOWS CRACKDOWN ON CRIME AND LAND GRABBING IN IBLCDA.

The Executive Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (IBLCDA), Omo'ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, on Thursday spearheaded a comprehensive stakeholders' engagement on security, bringing together security agencies, traditional rulers, community leaders, artisans, market associations, youth groups and residents to chart a united course towards a safer and more secure council area.

The landmark gathering, held at the Palace of the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, marked the maiden edition of the IBLCDA Security Summit with the theme, "Strengthening Security Operations Towards Curbing Security Threats and Misinformation."

The summit provided a strategic platform for robust discussions on emerging security challenges and practical solutions, drawing participation from the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Immigration Service, anti-drug advocacy organisations, traditional institutions, religious leaders, Community Development Committees (CDC), market leaders and other critical stakeholders.

In his keynote address, Chairman Aroyewun emphasised that effective security requires collective responsibility, stressing that residents, landlords, community leaders and institutions must work hand-in-hand with security agencies to protect lives and property.

As part of measures to strengthen security architecture within the LCDA, the Chairman announced plans to establish a dedicated security support base that will enhance operational efficiency and provide additional support for security agencies serving the area.

Aroyewun also issued a stern warning against land grabbing and other unlawful activities capable of disrupting the peace and stability of communities within the LCDA, assuring residents that his administration would continue to pursue lawful measures to safeguard their interests.

Addressing concerns over illegal revenue collection, the Chairman distanced the council from reports of unauthorised midnight collections in some communities and urged residents to promptly report any individual or group operating unlawfully in the name of the council.

He further decried the increasing spread of misinformation and fake news, describing it as a serious threat capable of undermining security operations, creating unnecessary panic and eroding public trust.

According to him, accurate information remains a vital tool in effective security management, urging residents to verify information before dissemination and support efforts aimed at maintaining peace and order.

The Chairman also challenged landlords and property owners to strengthen tenant screening and profiling processes to prevent criminal elements from infiltrating communities through residential properties. The summit featured insightful presentations and interactive sessions from security experts and civil society representatives.

Representing the Divisional Police Officer of Ikorodu Division, CSP Akinola Clement, SP Samuel Susan highlighted prevailing security concerns and underscored the importance of sustained cooperation between residents and law enforcement agencies.

Assistant Superintendent of Immigration, ASI Mistura Afolashade Olowu, stressed the need for proper resident identification and documentation, noting that community vigilance remains an indispensable component of modern security management.

Coordinator of Social Watch Anti-Drug Abuse Advocacy (SWADAA), Comrade Adegoke Bamidele, spoke extensively on the link between substance abuse and criminality, urging communities to support ongoing campaigns against drug abuse and related social vices.

The Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, commended the initiative and applauded both the LCDA administration and security agencies for their proactive efforts towards maintaining peace and security. The monarch called on residents to continue supporting security operatives and embrace peaceful coexistence for the collective good of the community.

At the end of the summit, stakeholders unanimously endorsed stronger intelligence gathering, improved community vigilance, responsible information sharing and deeper collaboration between residents and security agencies as critical steps towards achieving sustainable security.

The summit concluded with a renewed commitment by all stakeholders to building a safer, more resilient and crime-free Igbogbo/Baiyeku through continuous engagement, strategic partnerships and collective action.

The council also announced that the Security Summit would become a periodic platform for reviewing security developments, strengthening partnerships and formulating practical responses to emerging security challenges across the LCDA.
