SOB AGUNBIADE CELEBRATES ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE IN IKORODU, AS HE REWARDS WINNERS OF RASAK-ALAGAGO BEST BRAIN CONTEST. | Shakiru Seidu. "It was geared towards academic enhancement", Dr. Fatai Abiodun-Abatan reveals.
The Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, representing Ikorodu constituency 1, Hon. SOB Agunbiade, was on Wednesday, 27th of June, 2018, rewarded academic excellence among the students of Ikorodu.
The event which took place at Government Technical College Ikorodu well attended as the Opomulero of Ikorodu, Hon SOB Agunbiade, presented cash, items, certificates to the best eleven of the three different categories of Best Brain Contest and other participants, which was conducted for over 250 students from his Constituency. The event was tagged 'Rasak Solaja-Alagago Best Brains Contest and it was no doubt historic.
MegaXpression Magazine learnt that the contest was attended by over 250 students drawn from about 90 schools in Ikorodu Constituency 1, under the supervision of the Chief Examiner, Comrade Oluwafemi Fakolade, the NUT Chairman, Ikorodu Local Government and was chaired by the erudite scholar, Dr. Fatai Abiodun-Abatan, a lecturer from Lagos State University and coordinated by one of the senior Editors in The Nation Newspaper, Mr Dare Odufowokan. The over 250 lucky children were made to go through written exams in Mathematics, English Language and General Papers.
After thorough marking, Comrade Fakolade presented the results to Dr. Fatai Abiodun-Abatan, where eleven best results from the primary, junior secondary and senior secondary schools categories, making 33, were presented for rewards including the remaining 213 students.
MegaXpression Magazine also learnt that the first of each category received N50,000 with school bags and certificate while the second and third of each category collected N30,000 and N20,000 with school bags and certificates respectively. The remaining eight winners of each category also went home with N10,000 each with school bags and certificates.
Nonetheless, the remaining 213 students were all given certificates and school bags for their participation. The winners schools were also not left behind by receiving N20,000 each with trophies.
While addressing the audience, Hon. SOB Agunbiade said he was moved to organise the event as he was a beneficiary of prize giving day ceremony in his primary school days. He said the children were picked based on their academic performances in their respective schools. SOB therefore enjoined others students to take their education more serious.
Dr. Fatai Abiodun-Abatan, in his eloquent remarks applauded Hon. Agunbiade for the kind gesture and thanked all who worked closely with him to make this year's Best Brain Contest a memorable one. He enjoined the students to remain focused towards their academic pursuits.
The NUT Chairman, Comrade Fakolade, also in the same vein lauded Hon. SOB Agunbiade for his steadfastness in community development. Despite not knowing who is Rasak Alagago, Fakolade promised to immortalise him for his contributions towards the development of education during his life time.
Among those that celebrated with the students were the Chairman of the occasion, Asipa Kaoli Olusanya, Vice Chairman of APC, East Senatorial District, former permanent secretary, Mrs Karena, who represented Chairman of SUBEB, Onward Movement Coordinator, Hon Azeez Olosugbo, the LGAs Chairmen of APC, Schools Principal, Party faithfuls, among others
