Succour has finally come the way of the people of Egbin community, under Ijede LCDA of Lagos State, with the commissioning of water borehole, to end the perennial search for water from streams.
The project, which was facilitated by the Member, House of Reps., representing Ikorodu federal constituency, Hon Babajimi Benson, courtesy of MTN, was said to be 600feet deep.
Chairman of Ijede LCDA, Alhaji Fatiu Salisu, who spoke during the commissioning, revealed that the community had for decades been suffering for unsafe drinking water, “but we had no alternative. We are very happy today that this has changed, this is the first time that Egbin community is benefitting from such gesture. We thank God for using Hon Babajimi Benson, MHR, to give us close access to potable water. We assure him that we will treasure and protect it.
"At this juncture permit me to state that I am delighted to join you in this commissioning which is a project donated by MTN foundation geared towards the official Development assistance policy promoting development at the grassroots level. This programme is specifically designed to address basic human need, which includes water supply, health, basic environment and rural infrastructure. I want you to know that access to clean water is not only a basic need of mankind, but a necessity to sustain all forms of life in the world. Alhaji Salisu said.
In his remark, the erudite legislator, Hon Benson, who assured that many projects are still in the offing, said he's not leaving any stone unturned on the Bill of Egbin Terminal Station, describing it as great challenge that must be done.
JB, as he's fondly called, further revealed that it was his responsibility to bring good developmental projects that will better the lives of the people in his constituency. He therefore received applause by Egbin community for this kind gesture.
His Royal Majesty, Oba AbdulAkeem Adeoriyomi Oyebo, Obateru of Egbin Kingdom, while thanking the lawmaker on behalf of his community, described Babajimi’s gesture as their visible share of the democracy dividends “that eluded us for years and caused our people pain to get a good water.
