BASORUN INSPIRES IGBOGBO YOUTHS WITH STORY OF PERSEVERANCE, URGES FOCUS ON EDUCATION AT 'MENTORSHIP WITH HOA'


Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun, former Secretary to the Lagos State Government, former Commissioner for Education, Chairman of the APC Apex Body in Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA and Member of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), has inspired youths of Igbogbo/Bayeku with his personal story of perseverance, determination and purposeful living.

Basorun spoke on Tuesday when the Executive Chairman of Igbogbo/ Bayeku LCDA, Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, and his team paid him a mentorship visit as part of the Mentorship With HOA initiative.

The engagement provided the youths with an opportunity to learn from Basorun’s extensive experience in public service, leadership and education, while gaining valuable lessons from his personal journey.

Recounting his early struggles and the challenges he encountered on his path to prominence, Basorun explained that determination and an unwavering focus on his goals played a major role in taking him through difficult periods and ultimately to his present position in life.

He urged the youths not to allow their backgrounds or present circumstances to define their future, stressing that discipline, education, hard work and persistence could open doors to greater opportunities.

Basorun particularly charged the youths to make education a priority, describing it as a powerful foundation for personal development and meaningful contribution to society.

He advised them to complement formal education with skills acquisition, continuous learning and exposure to new ideas, noting that the world is changing rapidly and young people must constantly improve themselves to remain relevant.

The elder statesman also warned against distractions, peer pressure and the pursuit of quick wealth, urging the youths to be haste but slowly and build their future through legitimate and sustainable means. "Young people must learn to see challenges as opportunities to develop resilience rather than reasons to abandon their dreams," Basorun opined.

Chairman Aroyewun, in his earlier remarks, said the essence of the mentorship programme was to expose young people to leaders whose experiences could provide them with direction and inspirations, stressing that the future of Igbogbo/ Bayeku depends significantly on how well today's youths are prepared for leadership and professional responsibilities.

The Chairman further acknowledged the role of the youths in his emergence as Executive Chairman and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to initiatives that will strengthen their education, career development, leadership capacity and overall wellbeing.

The Mentorship With HOA, second edition, will climax on September 5, 2026, with Dr. Muritala Seriki, APC Candidate for Lagos State House of Assembly, Kosofe Constituency II; Damilare Orimoloye, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Sports; Opeyemi Damilola Seidu, Real Estate Expert; and Dr. Leke Dankuwo, President, Igbogbo Youth Forum, scheduled to serve as panelists.
