REP. JIMI BENSON’S ADVOCACY YIELDS RESULT AS IKORODU GETS COMMAND SECONDARY SCHOOL


Ikorodu is set to witness a major boost in educational infrastructure following the approval of a Command Secondary School, as the 174 Battalion, Ikorodu, Lagos State, secured through the intervention and advocacy of the Member of the House of Representatives, representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Rep. Babajimi Adegoke Benson, MHR.

Rep. Benson, who personally received the approval, described the development as a landmark achievement that would expand access to quality and affordable education for children of military personnel, their families and residents of adjoining communities.

The federal lawmaker expressed delight that his request had received the approval of the Nigerian Army, describing the initiative as a practical demonstration of what purposeful representation and responsive leadership can achieve when the genuine needs of constituents are identified and pursued.

According to him, the establishment of the school goes beyond the provision of another educational institution, as it represents a strategic investment in the future of children, human capital development and the welfare of families of Nigerian soldiers who dedicate their lives to protecting the nation.

Benson expressed profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, for his visionary leadership and commitment to initiatives that improve the lives of Nigerians. He also commended the Chief of Army Staff for approving the initiative and prioritising educational infrastructure and the welfare of Nigerian Army personnel and their families, in line with his Command Philosophy.

The lawmaker further acknowledged the contribution and continued support of Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, towards the development of education and human capital across the state. For Ikorodu, the approval has been received with excitement and gratitude, as the Command Secondary School is expected to become an important educational asset not only to military families within the 174 Battalion but also to the wider host community.
Rep. Benson noted that the people of Ikorodu are ready to support the successful take-off and sustainability of the institution, with the expectation that it will grow into a centre of academic excellence, discipline, character development and opportunity.

The development also reinforces the principles of the Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly its emphasis on education, human capital development and the welfare of service personnel as critical pillars of national development.

“Education is an investment in the future. Supporting service families strengthens the morale of our Armed Forces. Investing in Ikorodu is investing in Lagos and Nigeria,” the lawmaker stated.

With the approval now secured, attention is expected to shift towards the successful establishment and eventual commencement of academic activities at the Command Secondary School, 174 Battalion.

For the people of Ikorodu, the project represents more than bricks and classrooms—it is a promise of opportunity for the next generation and another significant milestone in the constituency’s journey towards improved educational infrastructure and human capital development.
