It was a memorable day on Friday, December 13, 2019, when a historic royal reception was organised in honour of Mrs Olusubomi Iginla-Aina, MBE, an Ikorodu indigene, who have worked unrelentingly to affect and impact lives positively both home and abroad through her selfless and hard work to humanity.
His Royal Majesties, Oba (Engr) Kabir Adewale Shotobi, Ayangburen of Ikorodu Kingdom, Oba (Barr) AbdulSemiu Orimadegun Kasali, Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, Oba Abdulakeem Adeoriyomi Oyebo, Obateru of Egbin Kingdom, prominent sons and daughters of Ikorodu, Olasunwon and Rademo Ruling Houses, Olori Commitee of friends, religious leaders, Council of Baales and Anibaba families were all in attendance at the multi million naira Ayangburen Palace, to celebrate a proudly daughter of Ikorodu Division, Olasubomi Iginla-Aina, MBE.
Olusubomi, a redefining philanthropy, who has achieved an astounding feat. She is the Chief Executive Director, Light up foundation, an international organisation, dedicated to working and empowering young people and disadvantaged was accorded the honour of being appointed as Member of the British Empire [MBE] by her Majesty, the Queen of England.
Olasubomi was born, January 1978, to the family of late Chief Alhaji Iginla from Lagos Island and Mrs Olufunmilayo Oladunni Iginla-Anibaba from Ikorodu. Olasubomi Iginla-Aina served as leader in several capacities; Head girl while in secondary school, President of Jet Club, President of red cross society, President of Arts and Craft, after which she obtain her bachelos degree in architechture at the Obafemi Awolowo university, Ile-Ife.
In his welcome address, Asipa Kaoli Olusanya, said indeed, Olasubomi Iginla-Aina have made Ikorodu proud, saying Ikorodu is made up of three components which Olasubomi came from one. "My advice to parents is to invest on their children's education, train and empower them because you never can tell which of them will bring out the glory of your family and household in future. Olasubomi has brought out the name of Anibaba family and also Ikorodu to the world map. There is no way the history of Olasubomi Iginla-Aina [MBE] will be told without mentioning Ikorodu," Kaoli said.
"In the past, parents paid little piority to the education of a girl child, thinking by the time money is invested in the daughter, she will eventually end up in her husband's house. But today, it is important we give a girl child sound education. We are proud to have you in the Palace and I urge you to sow a seed in Ikorodu, for many of our grand child to see you as a role model and aspire to be like you," he added.
The programme which was eloquently anchored by the former Commissioner in Lagos State and the Agbaakin of Ikorodu Kingdom, Otunba (Sir) Ayodele Elesho, saw the Chairman, Ikorodu Development Association, IKODASS, Otunba Ganiyu Olusegun Abiru, saying it is good to honour a woman of substance who have made Ikorodu proud, an extraordinary woman, a woman who proves without doubt against all odds to achieve all her goals.
Acting on behalf of the entire people of Ikorodu, Abiru honoured Olasubomi Iginla-Aina with an award, which was presented by HRM Oba AbdulSemiu Orimadegun Kasali. The Monarch congratulated Olasubomi for her selfness and hardwork in humanity, which have brought fortune to the family and Ikorodu Division, MegaXpression Community News reports.
In his Royal remarks, the host, His Royal Majesty, Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi, commended Olasubomi for her selfless service to humanity, acknowledged the Anibaba family, saying he cannot do without mentioning Anibaba's family in the history of ikorodu kingdom for there selfless contributions towards the developement of Ikorodu and also for not doing things for their own selfish ends.
As regards to this attribute and for the excellent exhibition of Olasubomi on her humanitarian services, the Ikorodu Monarch, Oba Kabir Shotobi bestowed the MBE awardee, Olasubomi, with a Chieftaincy Tittle as 'Omomurewale of Ikoroduland', while the symbol of ASA Arokolo was equally presented to her by the Precious of Ikorodu, Olori Kudirat Shotobi.
While responding to the honour accorded her, Olasubomi said her passion for uplifting the less privileged earned her the award. She revealed that through her NGO, Lightup Foundation, had been able to impact the lives of thousands of people through various humanitarian programmes, both in Nigeria, UK and the rest of the World.
“Most of the time I spend everything I have and after doing that you find there is always a problem on ground. My goal is to ensure that we solve the problem. So whatever I have got goes into helping people.
“I cannot count the number of people whose lives I have impacted. I started it in secondary school and when I got to the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, that was when I started Lightup Foundation,” she said.
Olusubomi therefore thanked HRM Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi and other Monarchs in Ikorodu Division, not ignoring the prominent persons and members of her family for the warm royal reception.
The attention was later shifted to Ayangburen hall, where Olasubomi Iginla-Aina, Anibaba families, wine and dine with the Royal Heads, prominent sons and daughters of Ikorodu Division in a warm reception.
