IGBOGBO STUDENTS' UNION HOLDS A HISTORIC PUBLIC LECTURE. | Shakiru Seidu. Diversification of Nigeria's economy and Nigeria's Restructuring were addressed by the discussants.

Igbogbo Students' Union was on Monday, 3rd of October, 2017, held its second edition of the Annual Lecture, set to address issues affecting the community and nation at large. Also to celebrate the Nation's Independence.

The educating event was graced by eminent personalities and stakeholders such as the Chairman Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, Comrade Olusesan Daini, and his Vice, Mr Titilola Adegboyega, Dr. Hakeem Olakunle Goodluck (Lecturer from Unilag), Lion Tunde Okusanya (fmr. Lion President), Mr. Shakiru Seidu, (Publisher of Mega Xpression Magazine), Barr. Adeboye Dankuwo, Segun Ajala, the guest Speaker, Barr. Dayo Israel, and many others.

Com. Babatunde Tobiloba, Deputy Speaker Igbogbo Student Union, gave a brief history of Nigeria in commemoration of the Independence and spoke on the importance of having a positive mindset concerning the country. He also spoke about the Pre colonial platform, post and pre independence, citing Honourable personalities like Dr. Nnamdi Azikwe who helped fight for independence. He urged those present to prioritize unity as there in lies our strenght.

Barr. Dankuwo did justice to the topic "Restructuring As a Necessity to Uphold Our Unity". He cited the need for restructuring as there is too much imbalance in the system and futher went on to say that there is a need to do away with the constitution and produce a new one that will enable us to practice true Federalism.

Dr. Goodluck who also spoke on restructuring says "the constitution is the genesis of our problems. To restructure we need to go back to the basics and restructure our mindset, perspective and reorient ourselves to understand why we are bonded".

The Nigerian Federation is not genuine, said by Segun Ajala. The battle to control oil has given birth to the imbalance we have now, says reduction of states is imperial to restructuring.

Mr. Shakiru Seidu, CEO MegaXpression Magazine also gave his submission on the topic, saying the nation can be restructured by going back to the regional system of government. He was supported on this notion by Com. Sanni Toheeb, the former President ISU who went on to say selection of leaders should be based on merit alone.

Mr. Yinka Ogunlaja defines restructuring as rearranging things that are not well placed. He spoke on the imbalance of the system saying that restructuring is much needed.

Barr. Dayo Isreal, in his eloquent speech, spoke on the importance of knowing ourselves and understanding our dynamics. He says restructuring means reorganising the government and achieving true federalism. He urged for youth participation in government, claiming restructuring needs youth who are ready and prepared to serve.

The Guest Speaker, Barr. Dayo Isreal also spoke on "Diversification of Nigeria's Economy, what the Future Holds". He stressed the importance of deemphasizing the economy's dependence on oil. Says technology will be the driving force of future economy and  we as individuals need to diversify our economy by looking into other business and ideas. After the enlightening lecture, questions were entertained from the audience by the speakers.

The Chairman Igbogbo Baiyeku LCDA, Comrade  Olusesan Daini gave a parting speech where he enjoined youths to strive for success and also the importance of vocational skills in restructuring the nation.

Mr Shakiru Sanni was on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, removed from his position as the Olumale Eluku of Igbogbo Kingdom, after his alleged gross misconduct and disrespect to the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali and traditional institution of Igbogboland. Mr Shakiru Sanni of Amoju branch, Lantan Onanusi Family in Igbogbo, was made the Olumale Eluku of Igbogbo few years back, and accused of insubordination, abused of tittle and total disrespect to the King, traditional institution of the land and Lantan Onanusi Family. During the meeting held at Osugbo Abalaye Shrine , where Lantan family were asked to pay fine of almost One million naira worth of sacrifice because of Mr Shakiru Sanni's misconduct, the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali , emphasized that Shakiru Sanni's removal as Olumale Eluku was to safeguard the sanctity, culture, tradition, religion and prestige of Igbogbo
