OVER 4,000 TEACHERS IN IKORODU DIVISION CELEBRATES WORLD TEACHERS' DAY IN GRAND STYLE. | Shakiru Seidu. Oba Shotobi, Akinsola, JB, SOB, Sholaja, others, bestowed with Excellent Awards.

The fifth day of October is a day set aside worldwide to celebrate the selfless sacrifices of teachers and to build the world and its constituents for world peace and technological advancement. Same was done in Ikorodu where the Nigerian Union of Teachers, Ikorodu Branch marked its World Teachers' Day Celebration in a unique way on Thursday, 5th of October 2017, at LGA's Office, Ikorodu.

The laudable event organized by Nigerian Union of Teachers, Ikorodu Branch under the leadership of Comrade Oluwafemi Fakolade kicked off with opening prayer and solidarity song led by the people of the high table.

The Chairman, World Teachers' Day Committee and also the Vice Principal, Lagos State Model College, Igbokuta, Mr Akeem Bello, gave his opening speech, recognized the presence of those present and congratulated the Retirees. He affirmed that today is set aside to celebrate and appreciate the efforts of all teachers.

The NUT divisional Chairman, Comrade  Oluwafemi Fakolade in his eloquent address to the gathering, appreciated God Almighty, HRM Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi, members of the high table and those whose support made it possible for the program to hold.

Goodwill speech from the zonal Director of Education, Zone 4, presented by Mrs. Mayo who commended the Union and celebrated the Teachers, especially the Senior Citizens.

Mayor Deen Sanwoola who spoke on the topic "Teaching is Freedom, Empowering Teachers" says it is essential to maximize the potential of teachers. "Teachers need to be empowered in curriculum development".

He says teachers' input/ideas should be allowed in the teaching process. Teachers should be allowed to innovate instead of following set and rigid format, he added, when speaking with MegaXpression Magazine.

Free Eye Glasses (Jigi Fako) were presented to 50 teachers following eye screening and health awareness done on Wednesday 4, October 2017. This was followed by award presentation.

HRM Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi, Ayangburen of Ikorodu was presented with Advocacy for Peace Award, while
Techer's Pride Award was presented to the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Lagos State, Hon. (Mrs) Adebimpe Akinsola in recognition of her support to the Union.

Awards of excellence were presented to Mr. Oduloye Austin, Hon Babajimi Benson, MHR, Hon. S.O.B Agunbiade, ML  and Hon. Nurudeen Sholaja respectively.

Award of leadership was given to former Chairman, NUT Ikorodu branch, Comrade R.A. Lasisi, former Chairman AOPSHON, Com. Abdullateef Babatunde Oduguwa.

Hon. SOB Agunbiade through his solidarity speech, expressed his pleasure to be among the gathering of erudite teachers. He recognised and paid homage to HRM Oba Kabir Shotobi, he commended the effort  of the NUT Chairman, Com. Oluwafemi Fakolade and enjoined Unity among Teachers. He enjoined the Union to recognise and pay respect to a great leader, late Abdul Razak Sholaja Alagago, which was promised to be immortalized by Comrade Fakolade.

The celebration brought to an end sweet food and melodious music.
