27TH IKORODU OGA DAY ENDS IN GLAMOROUS STYLE, AS EMINENT PERSONALITIES GRACED THE EVENT. | Shakiru Seidu. "We have succeeded in taken the celebration beyond dancing and display of our cultural heritage to the point of improving the economic activities of Ikorodu Division" -Abiru.

The annual Ikorodu Oga Day Celebration of this year ended in a grand style on Saturday 17th of November 2018. MegaXpression Magazine reports that series of sociocultural events had taken place before the grand finale that turned the events to the talk of the town.

The Chairman of IKODASS, Otunba Ganiu Olusegun Abiru, in his eloquent speech said they have succeeded in repackaging and rebranding the most popular sociocultural event in Ikorodu which others will continue to build upon.

"To those who have taken keen interest in our activities, it would have been observed that we have taken the celebration beyond dancing and display of our cultural heritage to the point of improving and expanding the economic activities of this Division.

"Our theme this year 'Cultural Values as catalyst to Socio-Economic Development' is a testimony of our desire to use culture to promote our business enterprise. The Ikorodu Economic Summit that was organised last year was in pursuance of our desire to expose the community to business investors and to as well prove that Ikorodu Division remains the best destination for commerce in Lagos State." Abiru explained.

He further urged the political players to bury their hatchets and move Ikorodu forward. "The primary election has come and gone. It was one event that nearly tore apart the fabric of unity of this Division but for concerted efforts of some leaders in the Division, it is hoped that all Aspirants would in the interest of the Division bury their hatchets and move Ikorodu Division forward on the path of concord, harmony, peace and prosperity." Abiru said.

The occasion which was characterized by various demonstration and presentations that arrested the attention of the guests, saw the Chairman of the day, Mr Oluwaseun Temitayo Jaiyesimi, finstSMM applauding the uncommon creativities of IKODASS. Mr Oluwaseun Jaiyesimi, the GMD/CEO of DW Realtors Limited, a Real Estate and Property Development Company, an ardent advocate of affordable shelter who is currently engaged in development and provision of homes to bridge the deficit in Nigeria and pursuing similar project opportunities in Ghana, thanked His Royal Majesty, Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi and Otunba Ganiyu Abiru, for the honor bestowed on him. "I am delighted for the honor given to me to Chair this great event, and I want to assure that, my passion for the progress and development of Ikorodu Division will not be compromised," he said.

The Chairperson of the event, Hon Adebimpe Akinsola, also in the same vein called for peaceful coexistence and sincerity of purpose among the people of Ikorodu Division.

However, HRM Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, thanked IKODASS Exco for a job well done and its synergy to deliver as promised. He urged all to maintain the spirit of oneness towards the development of Ikorodu Division.

Gov. Ambode who was ably represented by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Prince Rotimi Ogunleye, delivered the Governor's goodwill remarks.

Another side attraction was the presentation of awards to prominent personalities who have worked assiduously to advance the course of growth and development in all facet of life in Ikorodu Division, the governorship Candidate of Alliance for Democracy, AD, Attorney Owolabi Salis Esq, was presented with the '2018 Merit Award,' this is often conferred annually on most outstanding indigene of the Division. Others who were awarded are: HRM Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, Mrs Tosan Titilayo Erogbogbo and Prince Adekunle Oyebola. Posthumous awards goes to Late Alhaji Hon Sharafadeen Omotayo Sanni Arowolo and Late Alhaji Abdul Ahmed Oshosanya Dawodu Olowosago.

The event was massively glamoured with music to get the guests entertained and gare them a relax atmosphere. Prominent personalities were not left out of the life long experience which binds the people of Ikorodu Division together. These include the APC gubernatorial Candidate, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Hon Babajimi Benson, MHR, Hon SOB Agunbiade, ML, Hon Nurudeen Sholaja-Saka, Hon Abike Dabiri, Otunba Ayodele Elesho, Asipa Kaoli Olusanya, Dr Bukola Jaiyesimi, Mrs Grace Remi Balogun from USA, Councils Chairmen, amongst others.
