CULTURAL HERITAGE: IKORODU DIVISION SET TO GO AGOG FOR 'ASA' FESTIVAL. | Shakiru Seidu. ...Picked 8th of December for this year's celebration.

It is proverbially said that, any child who discards culture has hung a bag of affliction for himself.

The Ikorodu Rennaisance Project (IREP) as well as Hon. S.O.B Agunbiade, Majority Leader, Lagos State House of Assembly, have concluded all necessary arrangement to hold this year's celebration of ASA Festival on Saturday, 8th of December, 2018.

According to information available to MegaXpression Magazine, 'ASA' was said to be a beautiful socio-cultural heritage of decades which usually harmonize the people of Ikorodu Division in the good old days. The gradual extinction of this 'ASA' has been salvaged by the erudite legislator, Hon. SOB Agunbiade in a bid to restore the emblem that unites the people of Ikorodu Division together.

Asa carnival which was first held last year in Ikorodu Division, was said to have been rebranded and repackaged to further project the uniqueness of the ASA masquerade to the international communities. Besides entertainment and fun-making, it was made known that the carnival will offer upcoming artistes and tradesmen opportunities to exhibit their skills and market their products which fit into the agenda of the organizers.

Speaking to Shakiru Seidu of MegaXpression Magazine, the Chairman, Publicity Sub-Committee, Comrade Olalekan Murisiku, said this year’s edition of the annual ASA Festival is aimed at projecting the dynamic culture and hospitality of the people of Ikorodu Division in particular and Lagos State in general.

"With the events that would be showcased during the celebration, the festival would surely linger in the memory of residents and visitors for a long time to come.

"ASA Carnival which is one of the approved annual cultural events of the Lagos State government is a traditional cum social festival staged every year to highlight the rich cultural heritage in many towns of the Ikorodu Division.

"This event is also part of the commitment of the State Government to use entertainment as to drive development and as well market the State’s potentials to domestic and foreign investors who will contribute meaningfully towards making Lagos a smart city.

"May I inform you that the Majority Leader of the Lagos state House of Assembly, Hon. Sanai Oyeniran Bolanle Agunbiade, who initiated the festival, is still very much committed to making it a world class annual event. He's still unrelenting in his determination to sell ASA to the world as a Tourist attractions, as people without culture, are people without identity." He explained.
