L-R: Former SSG Lagos State, Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun, former House of Assembly, Ikorodu Constituency II, Alhaji M.K. Sanni and the pioneer Chairman of defunct Irepodun Local Government, Alhaji S. Amusa.
When mediocrity is celebrated as royalty, stagnancy and retrogression are inevitable! This is a Clarion call to the concern citizens, the Royal Fathers, Political Leaders, Council Chairmen, progressives and the technocrats who can accurately predict where Ikorodu Constituency II is heading to.
Igbogbo/Bayeku, Ijede and Imota LCDAs constitutes Ikorodu Constituency II, this is an indisputable fact. The indigenous communities are known to be unarguably coexisting peacefully from the time immemorial, politically and traditionally. Let's not allow politics of calumny to divide us for the sake of peace.
The argument on purported Rotation of Ikorodu Constituency II Seat at the Lagos State House of Assembly drags my attention to writing this article at this critical time which the political atmosphere is getting tensed. Should the status quo of 1979 remains?
It is to the glory of God that Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun, Alhaji S. Amusa and Alhaji M.K. Sanni are still much alive, ki Olorun bami l'ora emin won. Unfortunately, Chief Danmola in Ijede, Hon. Mustapha and Hon. Afolabi Oredoyin from Imota are late now.
In 1979, during the administration of Late Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande as Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun was the SSG while Late Rufus Babafunmisho Solawon was the House of Rep., while Hon. Oredoyin from Imota, represented Ikorodu Constituency II. Ikorodu was One then, as a Local Government.
When Late Jakande then decided to create additional Local governments, he divided Ikorodu into two, Ikorodu Local Government and Irepodun Local Government. Irepodun Local Government consist of Igbogbo, Ijede and Imota. After series of meetings and agitations, the 3 communities agreed to put the Secretariat at the center, which was situated at Elepe community.
After the establishment of the Council, Alhaji S. Amusa from Ijede was made pioneer Chairman of Irepodun Local Government, because Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun from Igbogbo remained the SSG, while Hon. Afolabi Oredoyin from Imota was an Assembly Member, for equity and fair sharing. That was what those Babas rotated, they believed that positions should be shared among the three communities.
In 1983 before the administration of Late Lateef Jakande was truncated, Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun from Igbogbo was the Commissioner for Education, Hon. Oredoyin was doing his second term at the Lagos Assembly and was made the Deputy Speaker then, while Alhaji S. Amusa from Ijede was still the Chairman Irepodun Local Government.
Even at that, in the following democracy dispensation, Alhaji M.K Sanni from Imota represented Ikorodu Constituency II, while Hon. Mustapha, also from Imota, represented the whole Ikorodu Division at the Federal House of Rep.
Hon. Saheed Hassan Adefarasin, Late Hon. Rotimi Sotomiwa, Hon. Adebimpe Akinsola and Hon Nurudeen Saka-Sholaja.
Going forward now, coming to this dispensation in 1999, Hon. Saheed Adefarasin emerged the AD candidate, in a keenly contested position which set the record straight that it wasn't an automatic ticket for him.
But his second term went under severe criticisms due to alleged non performance from some aggrieved groups. It was when some few Politicians, (names withheld) negotiated to allow him go for the second term and supported him in 2003. The game played out as planned. The position of Commissioner 2 was ceded to Igbogbo, and was given to Chief Adenrele Olowu, before he ceded it to Mr Oladunni Hassan.
After the completion of Hon. Saheed Hassan Adefarasin's tenure in 2007, Late Hon. Rotimi Sotomiwa, Hon. Gbenga Oshin and Hon. Adebimpe Akinsola shared a period of 8 years in the House of Assembly. This period, due to lack of understanding, Ikorodu Constituency II were shortchanged and Ikorodu Constituency 1 occupied the two State Cabinet's Seat.
Builder Olusesan Mayokun Daini, Hon. Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba and Omo'ba Wasiu Agoro of Igbogbo/ Bayeku, Ijede and Imota LCDAs.
Thereafter, the good and quality representation of Hon Adebimpe Akinsola was asked to discontinue, when a political caucus, (names withheld) launched a campaign of Turn-by-Turn in 2015, in which Hon. Nurudeen Saka-Sholaja emerged after the primary election at the Joy's Hotel, Ijede, 'a day I'll never forget'!
It was obvious that Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun did not agree with Assembly rotation then, but Baba Aladura was overwhelmed by the campaign of calumny and backstabbing traitors who have infiltrated the system and this hijacking the scheme.
Now that Hon. Saka-Sholaja has completed 8years, agitations are ongoing that it is the turn of Ijede, while Aspirants have been swinging for permutations and mathematics. I think it should be the high time Ikorodu Constituency II should come together and take the development of the Constituency as a top notch and a priority, instead of selfish aggradisement.
Now that the two-two tenure has gone round, the time is NOW for the leaders of the three communities to fashion out things, whether to continue with the purported arraignment or go back to the status quo of 1979 and give backing to someone with sincere and genuine ideology. While the LCDA that such person comes from will be denied other positions such as commissionership or anyone related. This I believe will bring back peaceful coexistence.
We should not allow the Assembly Seat to divide us in Ikorodu Constituency II. His Royal Majesties, Oba Mudashiru Ajibade Bakare Agoro, Ranodu of Imota, Oba (Barr.) AbdulSemiu Orimadegun Kasali, Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, Oba (Dr.) AbdulAkeem Adeoriyomi Oyebo, Obateru of Egbin, Oba Richard Abayomi Ogunsanya, Olubeshe of Ibeshe and Regent of Ijede, should come together on time and not allow the matter to be hijacked by some self acclaimed political Juggernaut.
The three Council Chairmen, Builder Olusesan Mayokun Daini, Hon. Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba and Omo'ba Wasiu Agoro of Igbogbo/ Bayeku, Ijede and Imota LCDAs respectively, should equally rise up, come together and meet the Party leaders, to uphold the status quo of our political fathers as entrenched since 1979 or otherwise, if we really anticipate rapid growth in the Constituency. The time is NOW!
...to be continued.
