The Senator Representing Lagos East Senatorial District at the Red Chamber, Abuja, Senator Adetokunbo Mikhail Abiru, has distributed the sum of thirty million Naira (N30m) to continue the educational funding of six hundred students under his scholarship scheme across the Lagos East Senatorial District.
The event which commenced with a holy mass, at the 500 seaters hall in Lagos State Polytechnic Ikorodu, witnessed the presence of the Royal Fathers, political Leaders, House of Reps., Members, Council Chairmen, religious heads, CDCs, SUBEB Board members, public Office holders, TACT members and the 600 beneficiaries, drawn from the Lagos State University (LASU), Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH), Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED), Micheal Otedola College of Primary Education (MOCPED), Lagos State College of Health Technology (LASCOHET), Lagos State College of Nursing (LASCON), University of Lagos (UNILAG), Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), Federal College of Education Akoka (FCE-AKOKA), and School of Oceanography & Marine Technology, Lagos.
In his keynote address, the Senator said: “In fulfilment of our promise during the electioneering campaign to provide financial supports for widows, physically- challenged persons, unemployed youths and others who were mostly impacted by the devastating COVID-19 pandemic, about 2,500 people have been benefitting from this scheme which took off this January and will terminate in December.
“Everyone is important in our reckoning, including our little children. At the heat of the pandemic in February, 2021, 150,000 facemasks were donated to primary School pupils in the Senatorial District through the Lagos State Universal Basic Board, LASUBEB.
”That is not all. I am glad to inform this honorable gathering that the fully-equipped ultra-modern four-blocks of twenty-four classrooms and sixteen toilets we facilitated to Aga Primary School have been completed and our children are currently enjoying improved learning experience and outcomes.
“We are also concerned about upskilling our youth to be relevant in the job and entrepreneurship spaces. In partnership with Co-Creation Hub, CcHub, Africa’s leading innovation hub space, we are setting a Community Innovation Centre in our district.
“This concept will leverage on social capital and technology in accelerating economic prosperity for our teeming youth population. It will be up and running in a few months from now.
“In the same manner, next month, between November 8 and 9th, we will in partnership with Fate Foundation, train one thousand Micro Small and Medium Business Owners across the entire district at a two-day MSME Clinic.”

Abiru later enjoined the students to remain focus, discipline, do away with social vices that are not the best and get on board with the new way of life which are the soft skills that are required to survive in the present world.
In their various remarks, the Traditional Rulers of Igbogbo Ancient Kingdom, HRM Oba (Barr.) AbdulSemiu Orimadegun Kasali, Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, and HRM Oba Mudashiru Ajibade Agoro, Ranodu of Imota, said to MegaXpression Media that the programme was worthy of emulation, especially for those who have the capacity to impart humanity.
Also, the Chairman of the occasion, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, a member of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) and former Deputy Governor of the State, applauded the Senator, saying that it was a gesture worthy of appreciation. "It's an indication that Abiru was a better choice and that he knows the positive effect of education on societal development," Ogunleye said.
In his eloquent remarks, the Chairman Bursary Advisory Board of the scheme, Dr. Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, disclosed that at the first instance of the selection process, over 2,185 applications were reviewed and that subsequent selection processes were carried out to accommodate non-indiegenes after the indiegenes had been given highest consideration.
Fatai-Abatan, who is a Senior lecturer at the Lagos State University (LASU), said that the Board was not only meticulous and thorough but that the byoard members were very professional and conscious of their integrity in the discharge of their responsibilities.
The Special Adviser On Education, Lagos State, Mr Tokunbo Wahab, who spoke on behalf Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, said there is nothing more than investing in the human resources of a state, saying development is driven by the quality of human capital.
Wahab said Lagos East needs to catch up in the area of human capacity development, adding that it is only through education such can happen.
Miss Matti Kaosarat Boluwatife, a beneficiary of the scholarship from LASU, and Master Salami Oluwadamilola Taofeek, a Student of LASPOTECH also under the scheme, thanked the benefactor, Senator Abiru, and pledged to accomplish the vision of the scholarship program.
The recipients also expressed their gratitude to the generous Senator and also thanked the Board of selection, under the Chairmanship of Dr. Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, for being fair and transparent in the whole process. They promised to utilize the money and channel it into their academics.
