FLOOD SACKS HUNDREDS FROM IGBOGBO COMMUNITY, AS MONARCH, OTHERS AFFECTED. ...Appeals for urgent government intervention.

Hundreds of inhabitants of Igbogbo, Oreta, Offin, Bayeku, Lajo, Owode-Ibeshe, Agunfoye and Awesu communities in Igbogbo/Bayeku  LCDA of Lagos State have been rendered homeless by a flood that followed hours of heavy rains in the area on Sunday and Monday. The flood sacked hundreds residents and destroyed properties worth millions of naira. A resident of Bayeku community, Mr Omotayo Oduala, attributed the flooding to lack of drainage system in the community. He therefore urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) to come to the rescue of the victims. “It has become a regular occurrence at Akin Ogunlewe,  Banjoko and Macaulay spots of Bayeku road. We had expected that the relevant authorities would have opened up the drainage on the road for the water to have a channel. “These areas are flood prone but this is the biggest flooding we have experienced in recent times. The Palace of Adeboruwa, Igbogbo was on Tuesday played host to the presence of the newly transferred Commanding Officer of 174 Battalion, Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel N.U. It was a solemn moment in the chamber of the Lagos State House of Assembly, as rain of tributes and dirges poured out for the late lawmaker representing Lagos East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Sen. Adebayo Sikiru Osinowo, at a special plenary session held in his honour on Tuesday. Osinowo, popularly known as Peperrito, died on June 15. The late lawmaker was a member of the Assembly for 16 years, serving four consecutive terms before he was elected into the Senate in 2019. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu led the session of tributes to the memory of the late Osinowo, saying the deceased lived a fulfilled life on the home and political front. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced the suspension of the planned reopening of worship centres in Lagos State till further notice. The fresh decision was made known on Tuesday, 16th June. Some chieftains of the All Progressives Congress, APC, on Monday described the death of the Senator representing Lagos East senatorial district, Sen. Sikiru Adebayo Osinowo, as shocking. The Mega Xpression Community News reports that Sen. Osinowo died on Monday at the Lagos Cardiologist center Ikoyi. On till his death, Hon. Adebayo Oshinowo, who's also known as Pepperito, was a Nigerian Businessman and Politician.
