AWOLOWO'S STATUE: PIECE OF ARTWORK, NOT PHOTOGRAPH. -LASG. | Shakiru Seidu.

The Lagos State Government has clarified the ongoing insinuations and diverse interpretations given to the recently unveiled new Awolowo statue claiming that “It is a piece of artwork expressing the Artist’s impression of the late Sage and not a photograph’’, adding that it can be subjected to several interpretation. This clarification was made by Mrs. Adebimpe Akinsola, Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, who while reacting stated that many sculptures have been made to illustrate the other essence of the late sage, particularly the ones that portray him as a ‘dogged fighter’ standing with his popular victory sign, but the new bust, depicting him in an entirely new mode, simply alludes to his multi dimensional standing. “The reality is that Chief Awolowo was a colossus who cannot be stereotyped. It is proverbially said that, any child who discards Culture has hung a bag of affliction for himself. This was the comment rendered by one of the IREP members when speaking with MegaXpression Magazine on ASA . It was an historical day on Friday, 29th of September, 2017, when the Majority Leader, at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. The Lagos State Government, Ministry of Youth and Social Development and Lagos State Youth Ambassadors (Ikorodu Division) hosted her maiden edition of the youth orientation programme, on Tuesday, 26th of September, 2017at the youth center Ita-Elewa. The event tagged "Revolution; Positive Ideology" was directed towards secondary school Students in Ikorodu Division. Notable Speakers and other guests as well as students from different secondary Schools in Ikorodu were present. The program kicked up with an opening prayer by Afeez Akinyele, a student of Oriwu Senior Model College, followed by the National Anthem and a goodwill message from Lagos State Ministry of Youth and social development. The Lagos State Youth Ambassador, Mr Lana Promise, stated that the orientation is a means to curb social vices such as cultism, drug abuse, teen pregnancies and cyber fraud.
