Ikorodu Local Government Chairman, Hon Wasiu Adeshina, popularly called 'Wadesh' who was elected into office last year, has recounted the achievements of his government in the first 365 days in office.
Four wall of the Council's Hall was full to capacity with people of high pedigree in Ikorodu. Some of whom were His Royal Majesty, Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi, Ayangberen of Ikorodu, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, former Deputy Governor, Lagos State, Hon Babajimi Benson, member, House of Reps, representing Ikorodu federal Constituency, Chief Olorunfunmi Basorun, ably represented by Chief Bolanle Basorun, Oloye Oye Solebo, Alhaji Musiliu De-Cubano, Alhaji M.A. Gafaar, Otunba Ganiu Olusegun Abiru, Prince Toyin Gafaar Bolowotan, Barr. Lekan Ijelu, Baales, political groups, market women, CDAs, religious, Hausa and Igbo leaders.
MegaXpression magazine learnt that Wadesh's achievements cut across different sectors and strata of the society including Education, Health & Environment, Infrastructure Renewal, Economic and Social revitalization, Security etc.
According to him, 'Wadesh' said, "when the Executive and Legislative Arms of this Local Government assumed duty in their respective offices, precisely 365 days ago, we promised to be fully committed, imbibing the attitude of being selfless but highly dedicated, consistent, and upright in serving the people in the various communities of our great Ikorodu Local Government.
"We promise to be dedicated, hardworking and committed, and we have gradually given a progressive approach to the Provisions of Social and Infrastructural Development, regular Environmental Sanitation, Health Care Services, Maintenance of Peace and adequate Security of lives and Property and Revenue Generation among others.
"I feel highly elated to state here that, within the few months of assumption of office, precisely on July 25th, 2017, the able Administration of Ikorodu Local Government has been able to impact lives positively in the areas of Social Infrastructure, Health Care Services, Maintenance of Peace and Security, Healthy Environment and Intensive Revenue Generation, among others," he said.
The Chairman, Hon Wasiu Adeshina therefore rolled out his achievements as follows:
WORKS, HOUSING & INFRASTRUCTURE
"In this area, we have accomplished the followings-
1. The extension of Box Culvert at the entrance of Sabo and Kokoro Abu Junction.
2. Reconstruction of Box Culvert at Sholafu/Olusesi Junction.
3. Reconstruction of Box Culvert at Ajegunle/Owode.
4. Construction of Drainage at Molupa.
5. Surfacing of 139m Road at Molupa.
6. Rehabilitation of Adeyeri Owuyo Street in collaboration with Zenith Bank.
7. Renovation of the Honorable Councilors’ Office.
8. Renovation of the offices of the Secretary to the Local Government (SLG) & Supervisors.
9. De-weeding of the Council Secretariat.
10. Purchase of Official Vehicles for the Vice Chairman.
11. Construction of drainage at Ginti along Ijede Road.
12. Construction of drainage at AP Junction in Mowo-Nla Area.
13. Construction of drainage at Ewu-Owa in Agura Gberigbe Area.
14. Construction of drainage within Sabo Market.
15. Construction and provision of interlocking blocks used to surface all the Roads within Sabo Market, and with this, Sabo Market has been transformed into a Modern Market in Lagos State.
16. Re-construction of the collapsed drainage at Itagbodo with the construction of Box Culvert.
17. Re-surfacing of Road at Obun-Oke, Itamito and Ita-Aro have also been completed.
18. Provision of Modern Street lights at Itamito.
19. Re-construction of Ayanra Street, Ikorodu
20. Surfacing of 139m Ayanra Street, Ikorodu.
21. A motorized bore-hole was officially handed-over to Ikorodu Local Government by the Senior Special Adviser to the President of Nigeria on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, for public use.
22. Agura Primary Health Care Centre has just been painted and equipped with beds and other gift items were presented to Nursing Mothers.
EDUCATION AND LIBRARY SERVICES
"It excites me to state here that our administration has continued to contribute in great measures towards the socio-educational development of our youths. During the celebration of our 100days in office in the previous year, some of our indigent students were presented with bursary awards, to mark the noble celebration. The beneficiaries were selected from various wards and carefully screened for the purpose.
"To mark the One Year in office today, One Hundred and Twenty (120) GCE and Bursary Forms will be distributed to deserving students. This is important because students should also enjoy dividend of democracy in Ikorodu Local Government.
"Ikorodu Local Government will soon embark on the construction of the New and Modern toilets along with a newly constructed Fence in Salvation Army Primary School, Ikorodu.
ENVIRONMENTAL AND WASTE MANAGEMENT SERVICES
"Mop up Exercise – This is a continuous General Sanitation Exercise, of which some strategic dumpsites have been ‘cleaned out’ to prevent the outbreak of diseases in Ikorodu.
Kick Refuse Out of Ikorodu – This has also been designed to keep Ikorodu Clean from environmental nuisance. The Cleaning Exercise has marked the completion of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Phases, during which many drainages and dumpsites were cleaned out, and the bushes thoroughly cleared.
CLEANER LAGOS INITIATIVE (CLI) SENSITIZATION PROGRAMME
"The Cleaner Lagos Initiative (CLI) Sensitization Programme was recently held, with the stakeholders, towards sensitizing the public on proper disposal and effects of Noise Pollution." Wadesh explained.
The Council Boss did not end his speech without touching his achievements on Agric Rural and Social Development, Community Development Associations, Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Primary Health care, among others.
While speaking with Shakiru Seidu of MegaXpression magazine, Hon Adeshina thanked his hardworking Vice, Hon Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba and his Cabinet members, Councillors and the entire Staff of Ikorodu Local government, for their commitment, support and co-operation, which have contributed immensely towards the actualization of the modest and audible policies for the progress and development of Ikorodu.
He therefore urged the residents of Ikorodu Local government to come out en-mass and vote for Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s Second term in Office for the continuity of all his great works in Lagos State. "Let me remind you all, that the year 2019 election is around the corner, therefore, I implore you all to go out there to collect your Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) which is your right to vote for our amiable Governor for Second Term in Office, he added.
'Wadesh' lastly make use of the opportunity to strongly advise the youths to shun any acts of lawlessness, vandalism and thuggery in the course of election. He requested for the support, understanding and cooperation of the people in his quest to change the economic and social fortunes of Ikorodu.
While addressing the gathering, His Royal Majesty, Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye and Hon Babajimi Benson, MHR, were all applauded the performance of Hon Wasiu Adeshina and Hon Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba. They enjoined them to remain focused towards the actualization of the good governance. Oba Shotobi however reaffirmed that the Council Secretariat was not sold, as it was being circulated, but insisted that the development of Ikorodu Division is sacrosanct.
The Vice Chairman, Hon Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba also told MegaXpression magazine in a brief interview how elated she was with the gift of new car by the Chairman. She thanked her Boss and assured of her unalloyed loyalty. Princess Folashade further extended her sincere appreciation to His Excellency, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and charged people of Ikorodu to get their PVC for the next coming election.
