"In line with the extant provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, all private security outfits (registered or not), vigilantes or other entities must be registered and/or officially documented with the local government and the local council development areas where they intend to operate.
“In registering, all private security outfits (registered or yet to be registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission) and/or Vigilantes and/or any other entity, however so described with interest in security in Ikorodu Division of Lagos State, Nigeria, must submit the profiles (Resumes) of all their Directors and personnel as well as their equipments (arms and ammunitions) to the local government and the local council development areas where they intend to operate for onward submission to the Nigeria Police Force and other government-established security outfits.
“The Chairmen of the Local Government Area and the Local Council Development Areas in the Ikorodu Division of Lagos State in Nigeria shall only be willing and ready to work with private security outfits (registered or yet to be registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission) and/or Vigilantes and/or any other entity however described with interest in security in Ikorodu Division of Lagos State Government that have satisfied the above requirements," the jointly signed statement stated.
The statement restricted any local security operatives, who have failed to meet the abovementioned requirements from carrying out any form of activities or launching, describing such as “unlawful” and a breach of the extant Nigerian Constitution and the Criminal Code.
Chairman, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, Builder Olusesan Daini, responding to questions during the press briefing.
The statement also assured the good and patriotic people of Ikorodu Division of their all-round services for the growth and development of the Division and security of lives and properties.
The Chairman, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, Builder Olusesan Daini, while responding to MegaXpression Media, revealed that the Six Council Chairmen have perfected plans to initiate Ikorodu Division Security Trust Fund (IDSTF) in conjunction with the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF).
“We came to that conclusion after realizing that Ikorodu is so interwoven. Igbogbo cannot solve security problems without Ijede. So if any council decides to address security individually, such leader is deceiving himself. That was why we decided to come up with a common solution,” Daini opined.
He further stated that the Six Council Chairmen have equally agreed to be holding the Joint Security Meeting on a quarterly basis, as a response to the growing security concerns in Ikorodu Division.
Other Council Chairmen in attendance include Hon. Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju, Builder Adeola Banjo, Hon. Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba, and Omo'ba Wasiu Agoro of Ikorodu West, Ikorodu North, Ijede and Imota LCDAs respectively.
Also in attendance were the six Council Legislative Leaders in Ikorodu Division, DPOs of concerned Police Stations, DSS, and representatives of government-owned security outfits.
