Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative LTD/ GTE, was on Wednesday officially launched its security outfit, to complement the Nigeria Police and strengthen security within Ikorodu township, Igbogbo, Imota, Ijede, Ipakodo, Egbin, Ibeshe, Isiu and other communities that made up of Ikorodu Division of Lagos State.
This was said to be reasoned due to the bad press being generated for the entire Division by the incessant criminal activities being perpetrated by some unscrupulous elements among the people of Ikorodu Division, which had negatively impacted on the peace and prosperity of the communities.

His Royal Majesty, Oba (Engr.) Kabir Adewale Shotobi, Ayangburen of Ikorodu Kingdom and other Royal Heads across Ikorodu Division, in collaboration with some key Stakeholders, were left with no other option than to take proactive steps towards stemming the negative tide, by engaging both native intelligence and scientific approach that gave birth to the Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative LTD/GTE, MegaXpression Media gathered.

In his welcome address, the Chairman of IDPILG, High Chief Adewunmi Adedeji Ogunsanya SAN, Odofin of Ikorodu Kingdom, thanked the well attended gathering for their presence, stating that the event is a culmination of many months of brainstorming and strategizing among the key stakeholders of Ikorodu Division, towards finding a lasting solution to the spate of insecurity being witnessed in parts of Ikorodu Communities.
"Let me state for the avoidance of doubt that, IDPILG is not in competition with the Nigeria Police and other statutory security agencies, rather, we are partners in progress, towards securing our communities.
"However, let me use this opportunity to express our profound gratitude to the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for making Lagos the most responsible State in terms of providing support to security agencies. I also want to specially thank the Inspector-General of Police, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos Police Command and the Commissioner in Charge of Training for their massive support for IDPILG and for assisting with the training of our personnel.
"We have invested heavily in the training of local security personnel drawn from various local vigilante groups, with a view to creating a command structure that would help coordinate their activities for effective result," Ogunsanya remarked.
Dr. Saheed Ibikunle, announcing the donations of Sen. Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, who donated all the Communication Gadgets for the IDPILG with additional sum of 5million naira.
He further enjoined other Divisions in Lagos State to emulate Ikorodu and embark on this well structured community sponsored Security arrangement, aimed at complimenting the Lagos State Government's efforts towards the security of the entire State.
Mainwhile, the former Chairman of IKODASS, Otunba Ganiyu Olusegun Abiru, said in his remarks that the focus of IDPILG is geared towards intervening in the Socio-Economic and Cultural activities of residents and citizens of Ikorodu Division, in furtherance of a functional and conducive environment that will create and promote opportunities for self engagement and enhance business activities, trade, education and commerce.
"Very importantly, this security outfit has been operating as one body with one aim and objective which is peace and progress to the entire Division, which hopefully will change the negative narration about the insecurity within lkorodu Division as a whole. The project is viewed alongside community policing, to compliment government's programme/ projects for a better Ikorodu Division in sync with the Greater Lagos State Agenda.
"It is apposite to state that, with the approval of the Inspector-General of Police, fifty (50) of our security operatives had the opportunity and privilege in undergoing security training programme at the highly rated and prestigious lkeja Police College. On their return and with their exposure, knowledge and professionalism, they were able to train the remaining 150 of their colleagues, with minimum cost to the organization.
"Now, IDPILG Can proudly boast of 200 well trained local security personnel who are capable of complimenting the regular security agencies in the discharge of their constitutional duties of protecting our communities," Otunba Abiru State.
"For easy administration and efficient operation of the whole security operatives and following the existing local policing, Government/ Local Council Development area structure, the lkorodu Division Joint Task Force was sub divided into six zones with operational heads. The Zones are thus categorized namely: Zone 1, lkorodu Central, Zone 2, Ikorodu West LCDA, Zone 3, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, Zone 4, ljede LCDA, Zone 5, Imota LCDA, Zone 6, lkorodu North LCDA," he added.
Also speaking at the event, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alabi, commended the efforts of IDPILG for bringing up such idea in curtailing insecurity in the community while promised to continue to support the initiative.
Alabi, who was represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Sam Ewah, who urged the personnel to work in synergy with the Police force. “Nigeria Police will continue to support this initiative for sustainability,” he said.
The Chairman, Lagos State Security Trust Fund, Mr Durosinmi Etti, who was represented by Mr Adegbola Lewis, equally advised the IDPILG personnel to maintain thoroughly the equipments and properly structured in terms of reporting incidents and proper documentation as well as conduct of personal.
Mainwhile, Mr Babatunde Folawiyo, CEO, Folawiyo Group of Companies, who was the Chairman of the Day, unveiled the initiative's logo in the presence of other dignitaries, while charging all Sons and Daughters of Ikorodu Division to embrace the initiative.
Speaking on behalf of other Royal fathers in attendance, His Royal Majesties, Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi, Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba AbdulSemiu Orimadegun Kasali, Adeboruwa of Igbogbo and Oba Mudashiru Ajibade Bakare Agoro, Ranodu of Imota, commended Chief Adewunmi Ogunsanya SAN and other members of the IDPILG, for the job we'll done and writing their names on gold in Ikorodu Division.
“I have to commend everybody for their contribution for the successful launching and unveiling of this security outfit, I am convinced this will go a long way in curtailing crime in our community,” Oba Shotobi said.
“As part of efforts to develop this Division, the committee has also decided to develop education sector by acquiring six acres of land for a vocational centre for the youths,” he revealed.
