ORIWU COLLEGE'S 84 SET MARKS 40TH ANNIVERSARY. ...Honours Kasumu, Oshin, Lawanson, Apena, Others with Recognition Awards.
The 1984 set of Oriwu College Old Students’ Association of Nigeria (OCOSAN), Ikorodu, Lagos, on Saturday, converged at Megalite Hall, Homat Events Center Igbogbo, in their large numbers to celebrate the 40th Anniversary, amid pomp and fanfare.
The hall was full to capacity and colourful, while members were on White and Blue dresses. Since its inception, Oriwu College was known to have produced students with academic excellence and high moral standard, which stands them out among their peers, within and outside the country.
At the grand finale, thirteen members were honored with recognition Awards, for their contributions to the 84 Set. The list includes: Alhaji Ibrahim Kasumu, Hon. Gbenga Oshin, Chairmanship Aspirant, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, Mrs Ope Apena, Mr Olugbenga Wajero, Mr Babatunji Adesola, Mr David Odus, Mr Olawale Alagbala, Mr Taiwo Fesomu, Mr Gbenga Akinyemi, Mrs Yetunde Ajayi, Mrs Murufat Ajetunmobi, Mr Bidemi Lawanson and Mr Azeez Okemati.
The Chairman of the 84 Set, Alhaji Ibrahim Olasunkanmi Kasumu, in his welcome address, saluted the founder of OCOSAN 84 Set, while congratulating all for the successful 40th anniversary.
"The success chalked and impacts of products of our class set over the past decades are visible to all. Indeed, of significant note is the role of our vibrant alumni association in the socio economic development of Lagos State and Nigeria by shaping the national discourse." Kasumu stated.
Also, the Planning Committee Chairman, Mr David Soji Odus, thanked the esteemed alumni, guests and members of the Planning Committee, for being part of the historic occasion of their 84 Set.
"To our donors, and sponsors, your generosity has enabled us to make this event a memorable one. Your support is invaluable, and we are forever grateful as we reflect on the past 40years, we remember the laugher, the tears, and the countless moments that shaped us into who we are today. We honour the legacy of our founders, teachers and mentors who pave way for our success," Odus stated.
The National President, Mr Arole, who was ably represented by his Vice, Mr Kunle Olambiwonnu, congratulated the 84 Set, noting that Oriwu College has contributed much to individuals' life, and such a foundation needs to be giving back to.
“We have everything to give God the glory and we are very happy. Oriwu College is noted for discipline. We are now meant to be seen and not heard. We were trained by disciplined teachers and they helped to shape our lives positively,” Olambiwonnu recounted.
In his remarks, the former Minister of Works and infrastructure and Member Governance Advisory Council GAC, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, congratulated members of the 84 Set, for successful organizing, charging them the ensure proper Master Plan for the school.
"We are gathered here today, well intuited with the right education and morals and that has created the foundation to enable us to give back today to our Alma Mater. This legacy must not die. This school has produced very successful men and women in all areas of endeavour and I stand very tall here today to say that we are all very proud of this great things.
Other notable dignitaries in attendance are Alhaji Olawale Hamzat HOMAT, Alhaji Damilola Olowosago, Mr Shakiru Seidu, Pastor Olaoluwa Aiyetoba, Mr Femi Oyesanya, Hon. Lekan Ashafa, Evang. Oyetola Dankuwo and Barrister Adeboye Dankuwo, were both represented, amongst others.
