POLICE CHIEF SYNERGIZED WITH STAKEHOLDERS IN IKORODU DIVISION. | Shakiru Seidu. There would be no hiding place for criminals again, Edgal assured residents of Ikorodu Division.
In the recent past, Ikorodu division suddenly jumped to the top list of security porous and highly dangerous area due to the spate of insecurity and unabated jungle justice meted on alleged criminals.
On Thursday, 7th of September, 2017, Ikorodu Town witnessed the mass attendance of the Stakeholders and the Lagos State Commissioner of police, Mr Ihihimi Oluwole Edgal, to deliberate on modalities to ameliorate the insecurity challenges in Ikorodu Division. The program was anchored by Otunba Ayodele Elesho and Comrade Kehinde Okeowo.
The Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, HRM Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali appreciated the participants and officially welcome the Police Chief while assuring total support to the Commissioner of Police.
Without further hesitation, the New Lagos Commissioner of Police, Mr Oluwole Edgal, sues for total cooperation from the Obas. He said, "I have lived in Lagos State for over 20years and Ikorodu is known for peace. However, the current state we find ourselves is very alarming and community policing and partnership will do us a lot of good. The way to get adequate intelligence is having partnership with the people."
He affirmed that there would be no hiding place for criminals in Ikorodu Division again. Hence the need for the people to be ready to work jointly with the Police to enable them curb the incessant crime in the division.
Furthermore, the Commissioner of Police opined for synergy, thus necessitating series of meetings he has been having with concern Police Officers to sensitize them and why they should dissociate themselves from aiding and abetting of crime. He also added that, "If the Police discharge their duty diligently, they will surely earn the trust and confidence of the people. He therefore implied that the Police are ready to partner with the Local Security Operatives to rid our society off the miscreants and criminals.
"No Room for any Shrine that is against the custom and tradition of Ikorodu division again. Enough is enough! It will no longer be tolerated for people to keep Shrines to be perpetrating crime against humanity," the CP expkained, as he spoke with confidence.
Moreover, the Police Chief also assured that non-challant attitudes will no longer be condoned among the Police Officers. He urged the people to be vigilant as there will be joint Patrol between the Police, Neighborhood Safety Corps, Onyabo, VGN, and other local recognized sorry Operatives.
He was so optimistic that peace and sanity would be restored to Ikorodu Division. He assured that his first three months in office will enhance reduction in crime rate by 20 percent in Lagos State, while urging the people to desist from any form of jungle justice.
In his final remarks, the CP said, "Local Security should be proactive and the DPOs should work closely with them." On the issue of Mr Alaka, who was alleged to be one of the sponsors of the dreaded Badoo group, the CP assured that he will surely pursue the matter to a dead end.
The Security meeting which was officially covered by MegaXpression Magazine, saw the Majority Leader, Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon SOB Agunbiade, who affirmed that some Police are aiding crime in the community and urged the CP to show them the way out. He also appealed for the construction of Police Station at Odogunyan which comprises over 32 communities without a single Police Station. Moreover, he pleaded for transparency among the rank and file of the Police, while soliciting for the need to motivate the local Vigilantes.
Hon. Nurudeen Sholaja-Saka, who's representing Ikorodu Constituency II at the Lagos State House of Assembly, also pleaded for synergy that is devoid of tribalism and sentiment among the Police Stations so that they can jointly combat crime, this is because, jurisdiction problem as always been a stumbling block to lasting peace in Ikorodu Division. He equally urged the CP to use his power to bring Police Command to Ikorodu Division.
The Chairman, Ikorodu Local Govt., Mr Wasiu Adeshina, who spoke on behalf of all other Local Council Chairmen in Ikorodu division, appreciated the CP and informed him that all the Chairmen have inaugurated Peace Committee and have been working assiduously to achieve success in their domain.
Among those that graced the meeting were His Royal Majesties, Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, Ranodu of Imota, Obateru of Egbin Royal Kingdom, Olubeshe of Ibeshe land, Regents of Ipakodo and Ijede, High Chiefs from Ikorodu, Igbogbo, Ijede, Imota, Ibeshe, Agbowa.
Others were Hon SOB Agunbiade, Hon Nurudeen Sholaja-Saka, Mr Wasiu Adeshina, Comrade Olusesan Daini, Mr Adeola Adebisi Banjo, Comrade Fatiu Salisu, Prince Wasiu Agoro, Princess Jumoke Jumbo, Oloye Oye Soyebo, Otunba Ayodele Elesho, Asipa Kaoli Olusanya, Aremo of Ikorodu, Comrade Kehinde Okeowo, CDAs from the six local Councils, Local Security Operatives, League of Baales, among others.
