CULTURAL HERITAGE RESUSCITATION: IKORODU DIVISION CELEBRATES ASA AROKOLO IN A HISTORICAL FORM. | Shakiru Seidu. Ambode, Ooni of Ife, Royal Heads in Ikorodu division, Akinsola, Babajimi, Ogunlewe, Pasuma, others, participated. I have approved ASA Carnival to be celebrated yearly, Ambode tells people of Ikorodu Division.

It was an historical day on Saturday, 4th of November, 2017, when the Majority Leader, at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. SOB Agunbiade, and IREP team set the pace with the launching of a book titled, ASA AROKOLO, a document of culture and tradition in Ikorodu division and celebration of ASA Carnival

ASA was said to be a beautiful sociocultural heritage of decades which usually harmonize the people of Ikorodu Division in the good old days. The gradual extinction of this 'ASA' has been salvaged by the dynamic Hon. Sanai Agunbiade in a bid to restore the emblem that unites the people of Ikorodu Division together.

The Division that was known to have 3 distinct heritage recognized by the State government out of the 86 in Lagos State, witnessed a large crowd as the four angles of the Ferry Terminal, Ipakodo, Ikorodu, were filled to the maximum capacity. The event which was anchored by Otunba Dare Odufowokan and Hon Azeez Olosugbo started with the opening prayer by Asipa Kaoli Olusanya.

After an eloquent address by the Chairman of the occasion, Alhaji Sule Aremu, President, Oriwu Club, who was ably represented by his Vice, Chief Adewale Sunmoni. Mr Abdullateef Bello, a technocrat from Abuja introduced the Book reviewer by reciting the robust profile of the Professor of African Traditional Studies, Lagos State University, Prof. Danoye Oguntola, who gave good review of the Book.

Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, Hon Adebimpe Akinsola, Hon Babajimi Benson, MHR, the Royal fathers, Council Heads and other distinguished guests launched the ASA Arokolo Book accordingly, after which ASA from Ijomu, Aga, Imota, Igbogbo, Gberigbe, Imowo-nla entertained the guests with colourful parade.

The initiator, Hon. SOB Agunbiade thanked the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ogunwusi, and other Royal Leaders for their immense supports alongside with Hon. Adebimpe Akinsola, who stood firm with the team to achieve success.

He recounted the beginning of the journey of Ikorodu Rebirth Foundation as a means to celebrate and further understand our value and Heritage. He stated, when speaking with MegaXpression magazine, some of the rich cultural landmarks in Ikorodu division and how Oba Kabir Shotobi and other Traditional heads in the region supported him in his quest to bring back the community's values and norms, also as a means to unite Ikorodu Division.

Hon Adebimpe Akinsola, when addressing the audience said she's a lover of culture and expressed her appreciation to Hon. Agunbiade and IREP for their efforts to preserve the culture of our division.

It is high time we started promoting our own values and norms. Asa is a pride to Ikorodu division and should not be taken lightly, I have given an approval and the ASA Carnival will be yearly celebrated in Ikorodu division, Ambode explained when speaking through Hon. Adebimpe Akinsola.

His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ogunwusi, Ooni of Ife, ably represented by HRM Oba Fayemi Olumuyiwa, Elerefe of Erefe, Oba Adekunle Adebowale and Oba Adeyemi Adeniyi were in attendance. Other Royal Heads were His Royal Majesties, Oba Kabir Shotobi, Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Ranodu of Imota, Oba Ajibade Agoro, Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, Oba Adeoriyomi Abdulakeem Oyebo, Obateru of Egbin, and Oba Richard Ogunsanya, the Olubeshe of Ibeshe were all in attendance.

Also at the event were the Gov of Lagos State, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, ably represented by Hon Adebimpe Akinsola, Chief Oye Soyebo, Sen. Adeseye Ogunlewe, Hon Babajimi Benson, MHR, Otunba Tolu Ajibutu, Otunba Ayodele Elesho, Asipa Kaoli Olusanya, Hon Victor Akande, among other distinguished guests.

Others were traditional Chiefs from Ikorodu, Imota, Igbogbo, Egbin, Ibeshe, Ijede, Ipakodo, APC leaders, top government functionaries, IKODASS, A+ Disciples and other social and political groups were all in attendance.

Alhaji Wasiu Alabi Pasuma thereafter entertained the guests with melodious music.

Mr Shakiru Sanni was on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, removed from his position as the Olumale Eluku of Igbogbo Kingdom, after his alleged gross misconduct and disrespect to the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali and traditional institution of Igbogboland. Mr Shakiru Sanni of Amoju branch, Lantan Onanusi Family in Igbogbo, was made the Olumale Eluku of Igbogbo few years back, and accused of insubordination, abused of tittle and total disrespect to the King, traditional institution of the land and Lantan Onanusi Family.
