IGBOGBO DAY COMMITTEE HOLDS PRESS BRIEFING. | Shakiru Seidu. It's a festival of new beginning in Igbogbo kingdom, Engr. Kalejaiye revealed.
Igbogbo Day planning committee and members of IDEA (Igbogbo Development Association) held a press briefing to intimate the world on Igbogbo Day Celebration which commenced on Friday, 17th of November, 2017.
According to the PRO of IDEA, Alhaji Abubakr Jelili, Igbogbo Day celebration started in 1988 and has evolved ever since, he said the ceremony is meant to bring everyone together, indigene and non indigene.
He also stressed that the committee is accountable for all financing, he cited some resultant achievements of Igbogbo Day Celebration such as construction of Igbogbo Stadium, Street lights, construction of some structures in the Palace among others.
The Chairman of Igbogbo Day Planning Committee, Engr. Taofeek Obafemi Kalejaiye in his speech said, this year's celebration themed "Festival of New Beginning" is unique as it is also a celebration of the One year Coronation Anniversary of HRM Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo kingdom.
The 10 day festival kicked off Friday, 17th of November with Iwure (special prayer) to usher in the occasion and a special walk on campaign against child abuse. Engr. Kalejaiye stressed that the festival is not just about celebration but also a means of gathering funds for the development of the community. He further said this year's fund will be directed towards building Igbogbo City Multipurpose Hall.
He laid down the plans for this year's Igbogbo Day Celebration as follow:
Day 1 (17 Nov.2017): Iwure, Walk against Child Abuse, Dinner with Adeboruwa.
Day 2: Igbogbo Day Carnival Parade, Medical check up, Talent hunt.
Day 3: Church service at Methodist Church Igbogbo, Artists day (stage play), Ram fight
Day 4: Education/ Youth day, Spelling Bee, Yoruba Quiz.
Day 5: cultural day
Day 6: Health walk, Medical services
Day 7: Oloja Day
Day 8: Youth and Artisan empowerment symposium, Jumat service and Thanksgiving, Youth Gala Night
Day 9: Final football match, Miss Adeboruwa competition.
Day 10: Grand Finale Celebration and One year Coronation anniversary of Oba Kasali.
