IGBOGBO DAY 2017: A FESTIVAL OF NEW BEGINNING ENDS IN GRAND STYLE, AS OBA KASALI CELEBRATES ONE YEAR CORONATION. | Shakiru Seidu. Igbogbo has demonstrated a unique standard in the history of "Day Celebration" in Yoruba land, Gani Adams confesses.

The annual Igbogbo Day Celebration of this year ended in a grand style on Sunday 26th of November 2017. Series of sociocultural events had taken place for nine days before the grand finale that turned the events to the talk of the town.

The Chairman of Igbogbo Development Association, Mr Kola Ogunkoya, said, 'We have succeeded in repackaging and rebranding the most popular sociocultural event in Igbogbo kingdom which other community will continue to build upon'. He therefore sued for continuous commitment and cooperation of all.

The event which was officially covered by MegaXpression Magazine, was characterized by various demonstration and presentations that arrested the attention of the guests and prominent personalities within and outside Ikorodu Division.

In his address, the Chairman, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, Comrade Olusesan Daini congratulated Oba Kasali, Chiefs and the entire people of Igbogbo on the successful occasion. Today's double celebration in observance of age-long tradition, speaks volume of the desire of Igbogbo people to preserve and sustain our traditional leadership and authority in preservation of our cultural heritage, he explained.

The Acting Commissioner and Special Adviser, Tourism, Arts and Culture, Hon. Adebimpe Akinsola, Member House of Reps., Hon. Babajimi Benson and Hon. Akinloye, Majority leader, LSHA, Hon. SOB Agunbiade, Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Prince Rotimi Ogunleye, were all gave good remarks of the celebration. They enjoined the leadership and good people of Igbogbo kingdom to maintain the standard of love and tranquility.

However, HRM Oba Abdulsemiu Orimadegun Kasali, Adeboruwa of Igbogbo thanked Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode for his favourable disposition on Igbogbo kingdom. He thanked the IDEA, Coronation and Igbogbo Day planning committee for a job well done and its synergy to deliver as promised.

The 2017 Igbogbo Day was themed as "Festival of New Beginning" and slogan, "#IgbogboKingdomOurCultureMyPride". This is a very instructive message. It is beckoning on all sons and daughters and friends of Igbogbo to look inwards into their capabilities and project themselves and the kingdom to the world as global players in economy, politics, Sports, music and various forms of human endeavor, Kabiyesi explained. Let every individual strive to exploit the talents latent in them, he added.

Gov Akinwunmi Ambode, who was ably represented by the Commissioner for local government and community affairs, Hon. Mushin Olohuntele Folami eloquently delivered the Governor's goodwill remarks.

Another side attraction was the presentation of award to Dr. Damola Andu who have worked assiduously to advance the course of growth in Igbogbo. While presentation of gifts to various winners before the grand finale accordingly.

The event was massively glamoured with music by Alhaji Sulaimon Alao Malaika to get the guests entertained and gare them a relax atmosphere.

The special guest of Honours, Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode, who was ably represented by Commissioner Folami, Otunba Gani Adams, the Are On a Kakanfo of Yoruba Nation, mother of the day, Hon. Adebimpe Akinsola, Chief host, Comrade Olusesan Daini, Pa Olatunji Odusanya mni, Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun, Sen. Adeseye Ogunlewe, Prince Adesegun Ogunlewe were all in attendance.

The Royal Heads were, Elepe of Elepe Shagamu, Ojora of Ojora, Obateru of Egbin, Olubeshe of Ibeshe, Oba Elemoro, Oba Igbobi Sabe, Alaketu from Epe and many Obas from Yoruba land.

The event also recorded the presence of Sen. Gbenga Ashafa, Hon. Babajimi Benson, MHR, Hon. Akinloye, MHR, Hon. SOB Agunbiade, Hon. Mr Shakiru Sanni was on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, removed from his position as the Olumale Eluku of Igbogbo Kingdom, after his alleged gross misconduct and disrespect to the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali and traditional institution of Igbogboland.
