9TH EDITION OF DIG OLDIES NOVELTY MATCH ENDS IN 2-2 DRAW, AS BENSON, DAINI, SHOLAJA, PUT UP SUPERLATIVE PERFORMANCE. | Shakiru Seidu.

It was a day of reckoning in the history of Igbogbo, as the community held its 9th Edition of DIG Oldies Novelty Match, at Igbogbo Sports Stadium, on Sunday, 1st of April, 2018.

This novelty March was said to be an annual event organized by 'The Initiative Group' (TIG), to unite the people of Igbogbo community together so as to promote peaceful and formidable coexistence.

It was initiated almost a decade ago to bring friends, families and oldies together. No wonder the Novelty Match was fixed for Easter fiesta just to ensure that everyone is present, MegaXpression Magazine observed.

The Match which was officiated by one of the highly respected Referees in Nigeria, Prince Jimoh Ogunmuyiwa, kicked off at exactly 4:30pm between Blue Team and Red Team under a peaceful atmosphere.

It was a great encounter between the two teams in which the teams refused to score until 23minutes when Pedro of Red team put the ball at the back of the net to record the first goal. That was the only goal in the first half, after the wonderful goal by the Captain of the Blue Team, Hon. Babajimi Benson, MHR, to level the score was disqualified.

However, the second half was more interesting as the Blue Team refused to bow to the Red Team. Anjorin Idris, popularly called Aloma, leveled the score line through a superlative strike to make it 1-1 in the 51minutes of the game. Nevertheless, Oyinkuro Okoloba of the Red Team increased the tally to 2 goals before Ekinne Obayomi of the Blue Team leveled the score line to be 2-2.

The Match was no doubt recorded a superlative performance from Babajimi Benson, Nurudeen Sholaja, Olusesan Daini, Gbenga Oshin, Adebowale Ogunade, Gbenga Faniyi, SP Sola Ogunwale, Segun Larayetan, Titilola Adegboyega, Deboye Dankuwo, Azeez Sodiq and the rest of others.

The organisers, Laja Kehinde, Tolu Faniyi, Comr. Kazeem Ogunmuyiwa, Demola Ogunlewe, Sule Adelakun, Jelili Ogunmuyiwa and the rest of them promised that the next edition will be more explosive.
