NBA IKORODU HOLDS 12TH B.O. BENSON PUBLIC LECTURE, AS TELLA, GBADAMOSHI, DID JUSTICE TO LAW AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIA. | Shakiru Seidu. Oba Shotobi, Oba Kasali, Benson, Oke, Tella, Ogbara, Akinsola, Kaoli, others, in attendance.

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ikorodu Branch, today, Tuesday, 10th of April, 2018, held its 12th edition of Asiwaju Babatunde Olusola Benson Annual Public Lecture. The branch Chairman, Mr. Levi Adikwaone and other executives of the branch had earlier before now attended a Jumat service at the Majolape Mosque, Ebute, Ikorodu in celebration of its 2018 Annual Law Week. Health Talk and Free medical screening also held on Friday.

According to Adikwaone, while addressing the gathering at the Ikorodu Town Hall, he said the Law Week is usually a week set aside by the branches of the NBA in Nigeria to celebrate the Legal Profession. He described this year's event as the 12th Asiwaju Babatunde Olusola Benson (SAN) Annual Lecture as part of the continued legal education programme of the Bar.

He appealed to the incoming leadership of NBA to use their best of talents, treasures and time to serve their fellow Lawyers and most especially the general public. Levi also applauded the current administration led by his Excellency, the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, on the improvement of general infrastructure in Lagos State. He enjoined the law makers to represent the people in the making of laws and not to play politics with the lives of citizens.

In an eloquent presentations, Prof. Sheriffdeen Adewale Tella, Director, Centre for Continuing Education, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, and Mr Babatunde O. Gbadamoshi, Chairman, Amen Estate, Eleko Beach Road, Lekki-Lagos, did justice to the topic, titled, 'Law and Economic Development: Moving Nigeria from Recession to Prosperity’.

Prof. Tella went deep on the economy, causes of recession in Nigeria and attributed it to the lost in value of naira, fall in external reserves, Currency hoarding, greed, religious chauvinism, gullible followership, declining industrial sector, social and psychological factor, among others. "Law is meant to check and discipline people and it's necessary we review our laws if truly we want to make prosperity," he concluded.

An industrialist, B.O. Gbadamoshi expressed lost of confidence on the Central Bank of Nigeria. He stretched the need to uphold the public procurement law in Nigeria and urged the Legislators to rise up to their challenges in moving Nigeria forward.

Mr Shakiru Sanni of Amoju branch, Lantan Onanusi Family in Igbogbo, was made the Olumale Eluku of Igbogbo few years back, and accused of insubordination, abused of tittle and total disrespect to the King, traditional institution of the land and Lantan Onanusi Family.
