CODING CLASSES EXTEND TO IKORODU, AS BABAJIMI BENSON'S FACILITATED ICT LISTED AMONG CENTRES IN LAGOS STATE. | Shakiru Seidu.
Lagos State Government is leaving no stone unturned in her quest to equip 1 million Lagos residents with the skill to code by 2019. The CodeLagos initiative of the Lagos State Ministry of Education, which was earlier unveiled to the public November 2016 and commenced in primary and secondary schools across Lagos State since then.
MegaXpression Magazine learnt that, this soft launch serves as the pilot for a program positioned to be the biggest of its kind in Africa and it giving the Ministry an opportunity to test its assumptions as well as its implementation plan.
However, CodeLagos Coding classes was said to kick off again in 10 centres across the State. The centres include, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye ICT Centre, inside Methodist Primary School, Ikorodu, Ikeja Secretariat Library, Ipaja Public Library, Isolo Public Library, Herbert Macaulay Library, Yaba, Ilupeju Public Library, Meiran Public Library, Onikan Youth Centre, eRead Africa Learning Centre, Surulere, and Action Health Incorporated, Fadeyi.
All Classes are said to be Free.
In the words of Hon. Babajimi Benson, MHR, while speaking with Shakiru Seidu of MegaXpression Magazine, he applauded Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for this great initiative, “though, it is a bold and ambitious initiative, but I am optimistic that the end result will be of benefit to all Lagosians", he assured.
Benson, who facilitated the ICT Centre, at Methodist Primary School, Ikorodu, and named it in honor of a political legend in Ikorodu Division, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, tendered his appreciation to the Gov. of Lagos State, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode for his listened ears and support to Ikorodu Division. He also applauded the unique creativity of Bank Olemoh, Special Adviser to Gov. Ambode on Education, and Ministry of Education, on this uncommon initiative.
The Education Secretary of Ikorodu Local Government Education Authority (LGEA), Mr Taiwo Oduloye, also thanked and appreciated the Special Adviser to Gov. Ambode on Education, Bank Olemoh, for the choice of Prince Abiodun Ogunleye ICT Centre, Ikorodu and his doggedness in moving forward the Lagos State Ministry of Education.
He further reiterated that the ICT Center has been in use and it's training at least, 1,000 pupils per week. This spread among the 63 Primary Schools and over 3,000 teaching and non teaching Staff of Ikorodu Division.
