ADEKEYE AYOMIDE WINS SPELLING BEE COMPETITION IN IKORODU. | Shakiru Seidu. "The idea is to encourage academic excellence in Ikorodu Division," Princess Aderoju Ladega reveals.
Adekeye Ayomide, a student of Sun Stars College, Ikorodu, on Monday, 28th of May, 2018, at Fun City, Ikorodu, emerged the winner of the inaugural spelling Bee Competition in Ikorodu. Adekeye, a SSS 1 student competed with other 17 contestants at the grand finale, after 36 of them had earlier contested in the preliminary on May 19. Adekeye Ayomide, Akingbade Ifeoluwa, Hassan Rofiat and Alagbe Fareed took the first, second, third and fourth positions respectively.
The programme which was organized in commemoration of the 2018 Children's Day celebration saw the winners and other 32 participants, receiving school bags, scrabbles, dictionaries, calculators, and Orushen books, written by Princess Aderoju Ladega.
While speaking with Shakiru Seidu of MegaXpression Magazine, Princess Aderoju Ladega said that the competition was aimed at developing the innate skills of pupils and students of Ikorodu Division. She also agrees that the competition had been able to fulfill the ultimate goal of creating healthy rivalry amongst students as well as drawing out their intellectual capabilities.
She said that the organizers, ATOMA Men in conjunction with Never Say Never Foundation (NSNF), had already set in motion machineries aimed at improving the quality of education in Ikorodu Division.
“The idea of spelling competition in Ikorodu Division is to encourage academic excellence, this was with a view to preparing the pupils/students for future endeavours and igniting the spirit of competition among them." Princess Aderoju revealed.
Some of the winners who spoke to MegaXpression Magazine commended the organizers for introducing the competition.
Adekeye said that she studied the dictionary very well in order to emerge the winner. “I am very happy and excited, I always read my dictionary and I thank God that I won the first position today."
Ifeoluwa said that she read her English textbooks and dictionary everyday to improve her spelling ability. “I am very happy for winning the second position; I won with the help of my parents and teachers," she said.
The inaugural programme was this year powered by Prince Toyin Gafaar Bolowotan, an aspirant, contesting for Ikorodu Constituency 1 House of Assembly, Hon. Adeola Adebisi Banjo, Chairman, Ikorodu North LCDA, Hon. Adeola Muhydeen Jokomba, former Chairman, Ikorodu North LCDA, Barrybration with Aolat, Eniolorun Farms, iCare Foundation, Hot DJ Kay, Savoury Touch Dry Cleaning, Azzex Catering, Quiver Discovery, Mega Xpression Magazine and Impact Newspaper.
