COMMOTION IN IBESHE AS OKADA RIDERS PROTEST KILLING OF COLLEAGUE BY POLICEMAN OVER N50. | Shakiru Seidu. Babajimi Benson, Olusesan Daini, Mathew Arowolo, others appeal for peace.
Members of Okada riders took over Owode/Ibeshe this morning, burning tyres and attempting to set ablaze the Owode Police Station, Ibeshe, protesting the killing of one of their members by Police officers over N50.
According to information gathered by MegaXpression Magazine, the Okada rider, was said to have been stopped by Police officer, who later tried to escape to avoid giving N50 to the officer. It was this attitude that was allegedly said prompted the Police officer to throw stick at Okada which eventually led the Okada rider to conceive fatal accident around 10pm yesterday. It was also revealed to our correspondent that the Okada rider was immediately rushed to the Holy Trinity Hospital, Ipakodo, by his colleagues before he finally gave up this morning. This was said to have led the aggrieved Okada riders to launch an attack on Owode Police Station, Ibeshe this morning.
When Shakiru Seidu of MegaXpression Magazine visited the scene today, the protest has paralysed commercial and other activities leading to deployment of Police Force, Squadron 63, from Igbogbo into strategic locations in the Owode/Ibeshe to restore normalcy.
Reacting to the development, Hon. Babajimi Benson, MHR, called for immediate arrest of the situation to restore normalcy to the community. The National Assembly Member, representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency, who spoke through the Councilor of Ward C4 of Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, Hon. Mathew Arowolo, described the incident as barbaric and unfortunate and expressed confidence that justice will be done.
Comrade Olusesan Daini, Chairman Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA also warned that his administration will not tolerate any form of killing of innocent citizens or extrajudicial killing by the security agencies. He revealed this through his Vice Chairman, Mr Titilola Adegboyega and urged the DPO of Ipakodo Police Station, who's also at the scene to calm the situation, to investigate the matter.
